Unfortunately(?) the burgundy interior is in pretty good condition, plenty of shag pile left on the carpets etc! that\'s why I was leaning towards a brandywine/dark plum candy but then it\'s loads of extra work and I\'d rather be driving it this summer than being reminded about another unfinished project!
Mods; does anybody keep the 12a lump or should I just swap it straight out? I\'m not mad for original but keeping the 12a is appealing it just seems new parts (seals etc) are non existent?

Keep the 12A in it, they\'re a sweet little engine and are ok in a small light car like a 1st gen.
Just stick on a full sports exhaust system on it, if it hasn\'t got one already ( there  are plenty of scrap cars about with good exhausts on them) to help it breathe.
Mazda uk left the federal emission crap on the uk cars which sapped the power.... just junk all that and get a decent set of exhaust headers on it.
Also, get rid of the viscous fan that acts like an enormous brake on the engine and replace it with an electric fan or a pair of 2nd hand ones from a toyota MR2 ( they bolt straight in) and you\'re good to go!

Enjoy it and worry about fettling it next winter when the nights are long and dark and there\'s sod all else to do!

As I\'m looking to ditch the original exhaust, two things spring to mind - emissions and noise.

Will it pass mot and how loud will it be with headers straight through resonator and \'performance\' backbox? Subjective I know depending on muffler construction but does anyone have any links to a box that works for them?

captainbizzaro

Emissions wise you should be ok with whatever system you go with as 7\'s our age only require a visual.

With regards loudness I\'ve got custom headers (when I say custom I mean homebrew) onto a stainless system with two silencers and it is not that loud. It pops and farts a fair bit but that\'s about it.

Always love the popping when I downshift :D

Hi Guys, re threads 21st Febraury 2010 @ 05:58pm & 08:36pm, I picked up "JAZ" from reading a fortnight ago- this is my 2nd REX.  Considering her age and with a little under 61K she\'s in pretty good condition although she needs some TLC and a few bits here and there.  Am new to these forums so I will post some photos as soon as I can.  Does anybody know where I can purchase an Owners Handbook either paperback or electronic edition?  Cliff

Hi Cliff,
welcome to the forum...

Do you mean the drivers/ owners manual ( that shows you where the controls etc are...)

Widely available on ebay for under a tenner

or the workshop manuals to help you work on your car

Haynes..... very good

Clymer.... also very good, good troubleshooting sections

Mazda factory manual.... ok, but tends to be \'unbolt faulty part and replace\', rather than fix.

These are all available on ebay for under 10 quid.

See page 17 of this thread for a tutorial I put up about putting photos onto the forum.
Nice series 2 by the way, I always liked the white 1st gens.

Cheers,
Ian

Hi Cliff and many welcomes.

The owners handbook may also be found from one of the cars that are broken quite often on here. I have a list of \'currently being broken\' cars if you want me to email it to you. Just email me - dgnock at btopenworld dot com
Until you get sorted, just ask away and we\'ll all help from our books.

Quote from: David Nock;572985The recent revisit of the Poll on "What RX7 have you got" has reminded me that I have been logging 1st Gens in the UK of which I can be fairly sure are runners or \'good on SORN\', not scappers. I have been doing this for a year now and my records run to 68 cars. Allow the odd 8 which may never come off SORN, or which may be duplicates (cos I\'ve tried hard to keep things straight where I know a cars moved between owners but it gets difficult at times). At this point I reckon there\'s about 60 running cars which have been \'in print\' somewhere, either logged on this club, for sale on e bay or on show at Rotorstock/on Calendars.
I\'ve noted a little detail about each car, so if anyone wants to put the Series (1st Gen 1,2 or3), the colour and ideally a partial Reg No. up on here, I\'ll tell you if I\'ve got it logged. It would help to know if any owners are recent purchasers and where the car came from as it may be logged under somewhere else.
Regular contributors to the 1st Gen section - Mark, Shaun, Stuart (Syebba), Daverey, Don P, are all duly logged and noted.

All good fun lads, I used to log Rotherham Corporation Bus Reg Nos as a youngster in the 1950\'s. You get old but your brain still works the same!

PS, I don\'t mind logging \'whole shell scrappers\' as well if they\'re stil on a Reg No. to ID them.
Hi David, I recently bought the White Gen 1 from Reading - JAZ 5127 (currently on SORN) as reported on 21st February (bought to restore and use). I became a member of the MRC last weekend and having read your thread on previous registrations wondered if you could check up on my 1st RX-7 - VLE 990X (2.6 GT) in Yellow.  I owned it around 1987 and had it for 2-3 years and often wondered what became of her, be interested to find out.

Welcome to the 1st gen section Cliff:cheers

Hi Cliff, VLE 990X.
This is an Odd One indeed. DVLA throws up a Mazda yes, but 6546cc!! Wow, some motor.
DVLA says 1979 car but 1st Reg here in 1981, so presume an Import.

Also last car colour Red. Not been licensed since 1993 so presume it\'s gone to heaven.

So....deduction time.... was it a Series 1, imported in \'81 and with a 2546cc engine???? i.e.13B (DVLA having mistyped the engine size). Resprayed Red between 1987 (you) and last keeper in 1993?

Interesting one.
Any more info Cliff?
