You won\'t get fully comp with third party on other peoples cars very easily either, most will stipulate that your 25+ in my experience.

Insurance companies are getting far stricter on what they will allow and give these days. Unless your absolutely loaded and willing to throw money at it then I\'d say your going to find it pretty hard to get insurance on a Gen3 RX7.

I drive under a motor traders policy and have had limited social domestic and pleasure usage, this will change when I\'m 25, so I\'ve started to save for a nice quick car and have my eyes set on a nice little rotary :D

One question tho, and that\'s how long have you been driving and what experience of driving do you have, as jumping straight into a quick car aint exactly a smart move, the chance to show off and impress your mates with a bit of power and not having enough road experience. Thats how insurer\'s are going to asses you with regards to the cost or whether they will insure you.

I had a 1.1 106, then a 106gti which I have now been driving for 2 years.  Its pretty quick 141bhp, that was quite a big step. But i know will be nothing like the rx7!  Never had a own fault crash like all my mates who drive like idiots, but i know telling the insurance company that wont help :|

I have no NCB at moment but know i can get insured at 21 with 2 years for about 1800 so guess ill have to wait until then.

And yet you got no NCB am I missing something?
I started with nothing and I have most of it left

If its not your fault you dont claim on your insurance.

feakins

Yeah but im not on my own policy, insurance was ridiculous on it at 17!  Am going on it in about a month.

QuoteIts pretty quick 141bhp,

Nearly double that power, add in rear-wheel drive and hey presto, crash-o-matic. I would strongly argue against getting a 250bhp rwd car with no traction control as your first experience of rwd. It might be worth grabbing something like an MX5 and building up NCB using that - at least then you\'d have some sort of grounding in driving rear-wheel drive cars. I know that sounds preachy, but I nearly stacked mine the day after I got it and I thought pretty much the way you\'re thinking now.

Also - I don\'t think you\'ll actually get a quote of £1800 with 2 yrs\' NCB. You might\'ve been quoted on a UK RX7 at that price, but mention it\'s an import and it\'ll be another £500 to £1k. Might be worth getting your parents to insure it and stick you on as a named driver instead.

Good luck with your search, but until you hit 25 (and more realistically 30) insurance is the most expensive single bit of FD ownership.

Rick (insurance due in 2 days :()

Haven\'t read back through all the previous posts but I think it

must be said [if it hasn\'t already]

I think you have no chance:(  and until you\'ve gained some
experience with some sort of perfomance car I would tend to
agree with insurance companies.

You see, on a selfish note, it\'s an accepted fact that using normal cars most accidents involve young males between 17 and 25. So the more young ppl that get insured and prang RX\'s the higher MY premium will go.

Ok so the problem here is its going to be ridiculously expensive, and even if i could get round the insurance im a young idiot who will crash:eek:

im 25  (26 in april)       got 6 years ncb.                                                 car history                           xr2   1 year                                                                                       stardard series 2 escort turbo 1 year                                              175bhp  series 2 escort turbo  1 year                                              208bhp       "    "   "          "       "   "                                                  corrado g60 standard  1 year                                                          200bhp g60 corrado with 2 stage nos ( 75 bhp)  1 year                 never had a crash
had 1 sp30 in the xr2

had a works van from 18 also                             yet cheapest quote i can get an rx7  with 300 bhp and ms kit   is 1050 with 500 excess.

i cannot see any insurer  covering a 19 yr old .  i wouldn`t.           i remember how i drove then in a comparably slow car to an rx7 :D

i`ve wanted an rx for years.  good things come to those that wait!!!!   as my family keep saying.    getting my first rx  on 25th march:rollin

good luck
if i had 8 hour to cut down a tree. i`d spend 6 sharpening the axe

I didn\'t say that - I said it\'s proven that you would be more likley to have an accident, thats a fact.

Stick you in a car capable of 0-60 in arond 5 secs. top speed of 140+ and the odds will increse. Sorry but having so much power with so little experience is a recipe for disaster.

If you didn\'t want to use the power and acceloratrion you\'d be looking at a more conservative car.

Yes I am trying to talk you out of tha idea, for now. It may be dissapointing but as the old saying goes \'walk before you run\'
I started with nothing and I have most of it left

Yep i know, u are all right and it is the sensible thing jsut to leave it but i jsut need to get the idea out of me head now.  How about what car would be a step up from a 106 gti?? which does 0-60 in around 6.5-7.  And can go 140 mph :p

J4P RX

Ahh dont listen to them - just go and get one if you can insure it.

106 GTI\'s are cool and pretty quick - I like them.

get a cheap 200sx ... you might struggle with insurance on one those too though :(

feakins

hate the look of a 200sx.  ill keep having a look for insurance, and see how it goes but looks unlikely, especially with all u misery guts being so negative! :D

If i did get one ur all gonna be like, "rar rar rar ur gona crash u crazy cat" so guess id have to keep away from the forum :wave

Andyp

hey dude,

I got mine when I was 22, only a few places would touch me with insurance... (and at daft rates) as it\'s a group 20 car with no traction control...they are right in what they say here, I still have a struggle now they all want you to be over 25, some even 30...

I\'d wait a bit as ya say, its not just the cost of insurance, they kinda are a money pit with tyres, services and so on being so frequent...

Why not mod ya 106 up a bit?

just my 2p :)
The Beatles were prats.."Money can\'t buy me lovveeee".. utter rubbish. You can buy love here

Buy my car foo! :D
