That car was damn quick!

I was on track at Hullavington the day it unfortunately expired.

You gave the rotary option your best shot John and nobody can say you didn't.

You are quick enough to win races , so I say go with the S2000 and good luck mate.

clive

Real shame as this little car has brought so much interest because it's Rotary which you won't find with a piston thingy under the hood, however I fully understand the need to be competitive

Just a thought, if they are going to penalise you why not stick a finger up and pop a turbo REW or TII lump and really show em

Hi Clive . Its not summit i thought about tbh mainly due to that old axle in the back 250bhp being its ceiling. Ill defo do some research......

The axle is always going to be the weak link regardless of engine.

A real cheap strong replacement would be to glue an RX-8 rear subframe under the back, you will get a strong LSD and the excellent multi link suspension for penny's

I find it hilarious that they have multiplying factor to engines and not bhp per tonne rules. Anyone with a turbo and good mapping can throw 35pounds of boost into an engine and kick everyone's arse.

re japi

I agree with Clive. Scrap that old rear and go for rx8´s ;)

And I´m with Grant too. Multipliers are just stupid. One of our track series has "theoretical bhp per ton" rules, which sorts out cars to three classes. I cant explain it better, but those rules work.

The only way too be competitive is too look at what the previous winners of races/series and copy. This IMO is very boring, nothing worse than watching the same cars go round and round as there's no diversity, one if the reasons I don't go watching drifting in the uk is that the last time I went every car was a Nissan silvia! Boring.

Sometimes you have to take a step back and realise it's not always about winning. To win at any level of racing you need to be the richest person. Taking part and having fun is more satisfying.

My dad was just telling me this weekend that his friend has moved onto a class of motorcycle racing, from racing classic 2stroke scooter,  where all the bikes are exactly the same and he has said that it is boring. The bikes never break, so there's no rebuilding/ fixing/ helping each other out between races etc which is putting my dads friend off acing all together. Taking part in the while thing in racing is better than the actual racing. The racing itself is the reward

Very well put Grant, an interesting perspective. It's not necessarily all about "outright" winning, but having an "interesting" car that is fun to drive and work on, and one that just, maybe, can be developed to be at competitive in the longer term.

Jon, you've put an awful lot of effort into developing this car with the rotary engine, it still seems such a shame to throw it all away, but you've had some fun along the way (as well as some setbacks!). Whatever you decide, it's been fun so far following your progress and, whatever your decision, it'll be fun following the next chapter I'm sure. Only you can weigh up options, what YOU want to achieve, and then decide on your strategy going forward.

If i didnt have the set back with the engine i would've carried on and entered as is. As i have lost the engine and spending is a forgone conclusion the opportunity to make it more competitive by not going faster but dropping it down a class has presented itself. The s2000 engine is finding its way into all manor of cars. escort rally cars, kitcars and such like and is a well proven route with plenty of aftermarket solutions for issues such as oil surge etc. I do want success if i didnt i stick to trackdays as cheaper and more mileage and racing is the next step and its big step the 1 race and qualify opened my eyes to that.
I bought a second hand engine and gearbox over the weekend with good mileage for the price of an average rebuild. its only hobby club level racing but i want to enter every race next year and i think this is the way too go as it will be a front runner in class B. Ive pained over this decision for a few weeks as i'm immensely proud of what ive achieved ...it all boils down to the fact i do want a plastic gold coloured goblet with my name on it!  :))

I ve got alot of work todo. emerald ecu, manifold fab, engine mounts etc etc.
my rx8 conversion will be stored whilst i scratch this itch...did consider hill climb and going to pembrey but i said id race at Combe and anything else would be a failure.

Guys i thank you for your support

I agree with Grant and Casey. :) They both basically said that I wanted to say ;)
