I've seen exhaust flames but never one reach this high. Considering how low to the ground Clive's exhaust is I think that's impressive :)

If you can't beat 'em, fry 'em!  :))
No, seriously: soon the competition will all be back there, eating fireballs! Keep up the good work!  :great:

Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

New Turbo arrived Friday.

Same Turbo but just with a different trim on the rear wheel which will give more low down and mid-range to get me off the corners faster.
With the new Link ECU it uncovered some issues that the Adaptronic couldn't!

The Link picked up that whist I was seeing water temperature ok at the Radiator @ 95 degrees, the Link was seeing 110 in the block. The ECU was now intelligent enough to think this would hurt the engine and pulled boost out and retarded the timing, meaning as the race went on the car got slower.

Turns out I had been pushing the water round the wrong way all these years, fortunately that's been an easy fix by just turning the Davis Craig water Pump the other way around

Intake temps need to come down 10 degrees so the air filter will be moved away from the intercooler and the bonnet opening altered to draw more air out from the back of the intercooler with a gurney flap added.

Big one though is that I have found where my horses have disappeared.

As you will see I ordered a new Turbo core with slightly different trim on the rear compressor wheel.

When I went to fit the new core yesterday, due to the slightly different blades it would not fit into the housing. Now its been uncovered that the housing had distorted and this meant that there was a gap stopping old core compressing the exhaust gasses correctly which explains why I lost all bottom and mid-range power !

New rear housing will be ordered tomorrow and then the car should finally see some good power all across the rev range.

You thought about an ic water sprayer for them hot days?
I fitted 1 on the 5. Less than 20quid. £9.99 ebay windscreen washer kit.
Pushbutton on steering wheel. Works a treat. Super easy to knock up.

Umm... Do you have more water temp sensors now, than with Adaptronic?

And you water went in wrong way im block?

Thanks Jon, I'll keep that as a maybe.

Jarno, yes it monitors water temp and air intake and goes into protection mode if it detects something's wrong.

As you will see on the next post I need to get the intake temps down from 50 to 40 degrees so the air filter is now away from the Intercooler

Packaging on the RX-8 is difficult so to get proper cold air into the K+N air filter but I had to do something away from warm air from the intercooler.

Steve helped by chopping out some of the inner with with his Plasma cutter and yes Jim you was right it didn't fry the ECU  :great:

As you will see I have cut out the back of the head lamp, but the real challenge was keeping a working main headlamp as per the regulation requirements !

Looking good. I'm sure our very own Mister Fibreglass could make you a Rx8 headlight air duct to ram in a little more air in too
