Dirt

It for dragracing only, so im going to have the wheels inside the stock body.
Anyway, since you have already cut out that much... do you need to make the body stiffer in any way?
My is pretty "wobly" already :2Confused

Grant Monkhouse

If I was you I would just get some light weight round bar and bend it to the shape of the Wing and weld it in. W
Should stop it flopping around

600gaz

Yes you need a full welded in cage picking up all the main suspension load points or else it will wobble and flex like mad . You can see mine in the pics .

Dirt

Yeah, its your fault that i cut out that much..haha :D Your build is my inspiration.
What i actually wanted to ask is if you needed to make the rear of the body stiffer? Seems like your rear half is not tied into the cage.. and i guess it will woble pretty much, or maybe not?
My cage will be something like yours actually.

(sorry about my not so good english)

600gaz

Once you re-make and weld in the rear tubs then the outer bodywork is stiff again afterwards as they tie the floorpan and the rear wings together .

Dropped the car back at the chassis shop this afternoon . New front end , steering and suspension is next plus finish off the rear end bits from the last visit . If there\'s time then exhaust manifold and turbo install . :mmmm

Cheers chaps . Pics coming as progress get underway . First job is to strip the front end off and skip all the bits , should take about 5 mins lol .
Then it\'s onto the chassis table for some chopping and tube bending etc . I need to get the front wheels ,tyres and brake bits together so he can get them into position and start making the suspension and steering too suit . Should be a cheap week . :2Rolleyes

re japi

Yes, i really cant wait to see this beast run ;)
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Ordered all the bits this morning on the credit card to get it over with , lol .
Two 7x13 minilite wheels , Two 175/55/13 avon cr500 tyres , Two Radical SR3 front brake calipers which are made by Hi-spec motorsport in Dartford , two 265mm discs and pads too suit the calipers and two braided hoses . Job done quicker than the wife spends in Tesco\'s . :D

Not too bad really , under a grand for the lot which is pretty cheap for proper decent motorsport bits . I could have saved a bit on the front brakes and used smaller calipers as the cars so light but didn\'t fancy trying to stop it with cold brakes from 150mph at the end of a drag strip so went for the bigger ones .

600gaz

The brake company have managed too squeeze the big calipers and 270mm discs inside a 13\'s rim now so i\'m using those instead of the 265mm ones as it\'s the same price anway . Result . Pics when they turn up . :cool

Brakes now upto 275mm and maybe even 280mm once final assembly is complete . Also getting all alloy CNC uprights and hub assembly made by them as alot lighter than stock Ford bits which weigh a ton . Should be around 3 weeks before it all turns up but the wheels and tyres are here already . :mmmm
