Hi Dave,

Do you mean that his entire Insurance was invalidated? or that they didn\'t pay out for mods? No details obviously, just curious!

Elephant unlike Tesco etc DO NOT pay out for any mods regardless of whether you tell them about it
they replace all parts with standard parts

So if you have a £700 aftermarket front bumper and you crash you will get a standard bumper to replace it
Though sometimes if you are clever this can be worked around

My ex who works in insurance mentioned she knew of someone who had not dislosed some bits etc and they did not pay out cos when the car was inspected it was found to have been modified

Dave U need to change your avatar to the grim reaper, - voice of impending doom mode (voidm) -  YOUR INSURANCE IS INVALID, YOU MUST PAY THOUSANDS TO RETIFY THE SITUATION! -  voidm off

but you are right, insurers are out to screw us all, make sure eveything is right on your documents or they will have a getout clause come claim time!

I\'m not trying to be the voice of doom its just with so many new owners coming on the board and taking the first quote they can get cos its the cheapest, you get the feeling half of them are not really insured for the right car even
A common misconception is that all insurance companies will replace your aftermarket parts with the same. elephant never told me they wouldn\'t until I asked.

Obviously there are a few things you can get away with mod wise with insurance companies, and everyone does it

All I\'m saying is be careful cos you will lose in the end if you don\'t check things

Doom lecture over sorry

Surley no one will notice my aftermarket bumper, skirts, spoiler, exhaust, air filter, hard pipes etc.... :D

davefrith

no ones that silly to have that many mods and not disclose them :)

If you can get hold of one, another good car to get you on the RWD ladder is an ae86 like mine. I am 23 I passed my test about 3 months ago and I pay about £1200.... silly I know, considering an FC Turbo is £960

86 looks ugly to some people but it is one of the most amazing cars I have driven to date :). Plus it comes as standard with a 1.5 way LSD and the hardest little 1600 you will ever see :).

It really taught me how to drive, the thing with RWD, you drive like a hoon, and it will punish you.

86\'s go for about £2k upwards, for a roadworthy one, you are normally looking about £2.5k... but it\'s worth every penny, and they are getting really rare, so you can prolly sell it for more, or definatly what you paid for it I should think.

Hey hachi-roku...out of interest did you get any quotes for an FD? i\'m in a very similar position to you...24 very soon (and before i get a quote) but i\'ve only been driving for 6 mths.

really got my heart set on a 3rd gen, and although i know it\'s gonna cost an arm and a leg i\'m thinking it\'ll be worth it.

seems like any mods whatsoever are WAY out of the question tho! :p

I think you\'ll be lucky to find anywhere that\'ll quote you with just 6 months\' experience.

I do have one bit of advice though - buy a UK spec FD if you can. There\'s basically no difference between the cars but they\'re an awful lot cheaper to insure than imports. The only bummer is that they\'re pretty rare.

It\'s become a lot harder to get insured under 25 recently - I think tescos no longer insure imports for <25 (they\'ll renew if you already have a policy though) and they were about the only people who\'d quote me in the first place (22 at the time, driving 5 years, no ncb).

heard about a UK FD for sale strangly about 1/2 hour ago:

this came off the rx7ownersclub (the old yahoogroups site)

I have a 1993 UK supplied RX7 for sale in black/black with 39,000
miles. Where is the best place to sell this ?

Is any one looking at this interested ?

Kind regards

Mark Shannon

thanks mark! definitely of interest. will have to check that out. unfortunately it\'s going to be a month or two until i\'m in a position to actually buy one...and that\'s after finally making my mind up as to whether or not it\'s really practical.

only thing is i really wanted to get one from brian or another trader who frequents this forum - they all seem extremely nice and very knowledgeable. also you\'re assured they\'d really drive the car properly and test it thoroughly before taking it on. not something you can say with confidence about private sales.

being sensible hurts. :)
