It's either 3.7 or 3.9. They are the other options

I'm wondering if the ecu isn't recognising it's a 5 speed box. Flat foot shift no longer works.
There no switch on mazdaedit to change the gear config

There you go Paul, 100% there's your reason as the gears are now spaced  much further apart which is why you have the "issue" you think you have,

Either Ratio is way way too high.

I tried a 4.3 in my road RX-8 and I think this is the highest ratio that will work against an NA  RX-8 , the diffence from just 4.4 to 4.3 was very very noticeable with 1st gear in particular becoming noticeably longer, also much quieter on motorways in top.
All the best Clive

Ok. There's not a lot I can do to move away from the diff I have then (4.1 ratio)
I'll go back to a 6 speed box.
Solved that one then

Any one got a tip for getting the input shaft bearing off? Atkins rotary/mazda sell replacements.
I've take both split rings off. Can't get on the bearing with a puller

Ref bearing i would have thought youd withdraw gear assembly complete out of casing. Then pulloff with std puller.
Weve got some fancy pullers here that go on inside of inner or outer race after digging seal out. Bearing is scrap then but gets em out.

Or reverse the whole conversion and put a 2.5 MZR/duratec engine in...

but where is the fun in that.

Seriously though, I have been looking at Rx7 engines but I can't find one. There is a kit now for putting a REW engine in rx8.

Looking at that shortly. But major ball ache. I've not rebuilt a gearbox before.
In my  eyes, the input shaft bearing needs changing and that's an easy way to achieve it by pulling off the bearing as it is now
