I fitted a gauge on mine and could see when booting it going from 4bar down to 2.5bar...i had a hole in the white convoluted pipe id fitted...rather than warm up ends in hot water to fit i flashed with a heat gun...tiny hole.
The pop off i was led to believe is a very rare occurence and when it goes it comes off completely.
I bought a little systec inline adaptor and gauge in expensive showed me what was going on..
Could still be you port opening? Early 8s did not have a fault code for the ssv in the pcm...my car had the sensor but not the code i only discovered by changing pcm...
You should be able too see it with mazda edit i would have thought?

Easy check of vacuum chamber is pull the vac line off ...should make a psst noise as air rushes in. Unstarted as vac is stored...and could swap vac lines out to vdi ssv and air pump...plus the plugs as solenoids all the same...just dont mix them up...that would rule of vac leak and solenoids.

I did have a ssv fault a while ago but I thought that had fixed itself. I bought a hand held vac pump so I'll test it.

Worth checking...only take 10 mins...
Before pulling fuel pot which is a pain if you get the systec tester and it stays at 4bar all the way to redline you know the fuel system is good...

I've checked both actuators seem free. One is a bit squeaky, going to spray with lube.
Vac Reservoir  is holding fine.
1 way valves round correct way.
Only thing I can think of is a sticky solenoid.

Static there is no way to test as not seeing rev range. However if you put 12v on the soleniods they will work.

I did have p0076 before. I'm going to swap the vdi solenoid for the unused vfad

The plugs are blue red green..the soleniods are black...worth following coloured plug to black vac line to vdi ssv etc.
And if you not using airpump. Pluging the vac line.
