Yesterday was very costly due to time constraints as the first race is 21st April...running in and testing the car. Biggest concern is lack of seat time ive done 1 trackday only. I need more time in car
On reflection whats done is done highly unlikely to make first race now which has taken the pressure off so basically deep breath and crack on....gonna get the sump off today and have a look at my spare to see if useable.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck this weekend.  Looks like and easy fix though and no long term damage done.

Suffice to say i think the running in has been completed..Been out again making use of this lovely weather today and quick blast during week. Forgot the total as have no odometer but its up there! Kept in below 5k today which is 80mph on motorway so varying load etc. Did some bumpy uneven back roads as well that dont suit the car at all. Went for a few extra revs 10 mins from home and scared myself silly...Time to find a trackday for some safe exploration.

Here you go. Look closley and you will see the oil coming out of the sump after a flying lesson over a kerb in the other rotary westy before it was sold

I was a little worried b4....now a tad more! Sump guard is pretty beefy! I can raise engine easily enough but then ive got to redesign bonnet! Not making the the first race 21/4 or probably 2nd 05/05 as need testing testing testing!

What was your clearance? ( bottom of sump to ground)

Same issues that I had.
I ended up releaving the bonnet so the air cleaner would stick through it when I raised the engine.
The picture above is when the engine was low. Foolishly about 80mm from the ground. I cant remember what we got in the end but I had no further issues.
Was it quick. Hell yes.
Would I do it again. Not in an open top kit car no. I prefer a roof over my head thanks

Hi mate. Thanks for your input and im gonna take action on your warning....far easier to put a hump/air intake on bonnet than smash the sump and rebuild.

re japi

Ya, great info. And great picture :)
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

You would be surprised how \'small\' the hump needs to be, mine is basically a V8 bonnet extended forward to the front of the bonnet and made close to full width at the mid point.  And my engine is mounted above the lower chassis rail, at that height you can also remove the silly gearbox hoop and replace that with a contiguous chassis member.  You engine also looks a lot further forward in the chassis than mine so you may no be able to sneak the air filter under the hump as I have.
