Quote from: Buhl;843515I think thats something race drivers learn to live with? (Im not a race driver, so i dont know ;) )

I agree completely, but the window is able to come out on test and track days where speed is not quite as essential if I want to, but race days !, well,  thats a different matter  :Viking

Quote from: C J R;843556Ducting cold air in at the front and reverse ducts allowing hot air out of the rear side windows seems like a good way of circulating air.

Chris

I\'m there already Chris, the thin rear windows weighed just about nothing and so I refitted them so they could still be opened to let the hot air out, and that\'s just from me, see you didn\'t know I talk in the car  :Giggle

I can see the smartness in that :)

Hi Clive, It\'s super to hear you will be racing again and in a RX8. The car looks great so far. I will definitely follow your progress...

You talked about letting the hot cabin air out, using the side rear windows... since the FD don\'t have them, I made 3 holes and added a cover for rain/aero\'s. It has worked well for me.. maybe it could work for you.

Have FUN and best of luck to you in 2013.

Clive have you thought of Mounting the radiator at the rear?

Takes some heat out of the engine bay and prevents and damage from debris and tyre walls.

Yes it\'s an excellent way forward and Rallycross cars used this for years.

I know that in the series that the two Skylines that have dominated this years Classic Touring Car Racing Club’s championship  that the RX-7 of Paul Dobson, seen below, races in were allowed to put the Radiators in the boot for this year which upset a few including Rod Birley as apparently they did it for weight distribution reasons!

But as far as I know normally water radiators must remain within the confines of the engine compartment, however its a good point, worth  investigating as it ensures good cold air to the intercooler.

It does go on though as you normally then need a separate bulk head plus scoops to get the air in.

It\'s worth investigating Clive, I can\'t see them arguing its a weight distribution cheat as its may only be a couple of kilos when full! If you mount fans blowing through the rad from inside the car it will also suck any heat out of the cabin. You could add a roof scoop or naca duct in the roof with a duct down to rad for cool air feed.

It\'s a no brained in my eyes, it\'s also a safeguard for the engine. A hole in the IC isn\'t too bad, a hole in the radiator is really bad!

If I get around to having another FD I will be doing this mod, but mounting the rad on the roll cage sticking out the rear screen.

Using AN fittings welded to rad will ensure good strong piping and the AN fitting on the water pump housing. You shouldn\'t need to go with an EWP as the standard pump should be able to push the water around the system. Which also keeps a thermostat.

The Rotary engine will be BANNED in the Quaife Motorsport News Championship this year, anyway all radiators had to be fitted in the original place in there regs.

Why are they getting banned? I think it\'s about time a rotary only class was created where piston engines are banned except v8s so we can beat them

Chris

As Chris says, it gets hot and so much hotter than i ever thought it would.
On the drive down to Brands in December i jammed a bottle of Coke between the drivers seat and the transition tunnel to sip on the way there, when i arrived it was as hot as a freshly made cup of coffee.
Even with the blowers on cold mad almost no difference.

When i change my windows to lexan, i will be putting a drivers side vent on them.
Tact is the knack of making a point without making an enemy.

At least back in the eighty\'s it was more subtle when after the Gen 1 won the British Touring Car Championship two years on the trot, they brought in the rule that the model had to have four doors which effectively banned the RX-7 and the Rotary overnight :Hammer

Phil any thoughts on what series you will enter for 2013  ?

Happy new year Clive!! off to the Autosport Show to have a look @ what\'s running this year,I know 2 poss 3 of the big powered Skylines are fitting turbo restrictors, and changing back front mount rads for the Quaife series, there\'s Semsec,(Mainly Lydden) Intermarque,Thundersaloons,Eurosaloons, Castle Combe GT\'s,If I can get the budget together I would like to do the GT Cup, Having done a couple of Time Attack\'s I do really want to race, other then just timed runs.
What are your thought\'s now Mr Birley has stopped us entry our local championship!!

I would have thought the Skylines were just as much of a danger because they may well still produce lots of torque even though strangled with a restrictor

Hopefully I will bump into Rod be in the mean time have you seen this written down anywhere or is it whispers at this stage
