The Rover V8 that has got in it is quite light and it would make for an interesting car.  Not masses of power, probably about 180 bhp but loads of torque from tickover to 5000 rpm.  Make for a very lively machine.
RX8 High Power, Cusco Coilovers, Dotz wheels and flames. Shoe Size 12

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

Quote from: B.Martin;835208I\'m certainly not saying it doesn\'t work a treat or that i don\'t understand why its done, just saying its getting far to common. Everything i see now days has a V8 under the bonnet, its just getting a little tedious.

I haven\'t driven one, perhaps this is why Tinker ;)

Im with you on this one, if you want a V8, buy a V8, there are plenty out there!

However, i also understand the enjoyment of wanting to have a "project".

The only conversions i get are where you perhaps change from front engined to mid/rear to mimic a special, say like 6r4 or 205 to a ti16, following a proven heritage!

I have no idea why you would want a v8 in a mx5 or more so in a Rx7 as the 7 hardly lacks performance!

Each to their own though, thats what makes the world an interesting place imho :)

The simple answer to why people use v8s is......... Because they can. :)

If I could fit the mustang 5.0 litre engine in an fd I would do it, but with the over head quad cam just makes the heads too big to fit in the engine bay:(

Genuine question, if that engine floats your boat, why not just have a Mustang?

I would do. But I would also like a v8 fd. 2 different cars, ones big and heavy the other an FD. I prefer the ford mod motor over the LS as its far superior in my opinion. LS engine use more litres to make power, 6.0 litres upwards and making 400 horsepower and they don\'t rev too well, the mustang is a 5.0 (ok its not small) but uses newer technologies to make same power, and they like to rev.

I put it this question to you, if you wanted a single turbo rotary instead of the stock twins on an fd why wouldn\'t you just get an FC 13bT?

We do these things because it\'s something we can and want too. I know if I had millions of pounds I would take something like a Lamborghini gallardo and put a 4rotor in it. Turbod maybe, why simply because I could and it would be freaking EPIC.

More power :), still keeps the 50/50 weight distribution, still keeps the glorious rotary which to me is the main reason for owning one.

Please lets not turn this into a v8 versus rotary discussion, i was just asking a genuine question :)

And i kind of agree with your Lambo comment, its seems all to dull and unimaginative to buy hyper cars if you suddenly get some serious money! However, i think i am lost at the point where you want a V8 in place of a rotary, but would want a rotary in place of the V10 (i think), if i won the euromillions, i would build a 3/4 rotor out of 12a stuff :)

No debate rotaries are awesome but for me I just would if I could, old school rotary is where it\'s at though:);)

Where do you get that ls motors don\'t rev ? A stock ls1 with a cam and springs will rev to 7400 , does it matter how big the cc is when the package is small . The ford motor are four cam now so very wide and don\'t make the power a Ls does with out spending lots of Money a Ls can go out to 8 litre for the same outside size and make serious power 700@ wheels NA a ford can\'t do that !!

Mustang - 1500kgs, live rear axle
FD - 1250kgs, multilink IRS

Just a far more sophisticated chassis, even before you consider weight, size, height of centre of gravity, and appearance.
Not that I want a V8 FD, but I can understand the appeal.
