Thanks Peter, yes good to see all those RX-8\'s out there mixing it up :D

You may see the engine at Carl\'s but I am building all the rest myself :Thumbs-up

Nothing to update on the thread ATM as I have been busy chopping as much weight out of the car and working on the suspension, hopefully my new safety devices cage thats on order will arrive soon, then I can really get on  with it :cool.

What sort of areas have you been able to chop weight out of? Have you been weighing all the ejected parts to see how much you have saved?

I would have thought the season was well under way by now?

2012 season is, I think this is aiming for 2013.

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

I have not been weighing things but getting rid of the six air bags including the huge one on the dash will have have helped, but what has surprised me is the weight of the doors of which severe gutting is taking place including plastic front windows :chat

The other area for weight loss is that the heater and air con system has now gone and this was a real monster taking up 3/4 of the width of the dash to say nothing of the weight of it all!.

Pilkington Glass are currently making me proper DOT approved heated front screens for the RX-8 and they informed me the other day that these will be the only other screens to use the double heated system they use in the new McLaren road car due to the depth of an RX-8 screen :chat

All in all I have found myself staggered at how well an RX-8 performs now I know its dragging all that weight around:Thumbs-up

How extensive is the cage you are having installed Clive? Will it outweigh the weight saving you have done and make it heavier :(? Is there a lot of sound deadening tar on the rx8? The rx4 had at least 15kilos of that stuff stuck too it.

clive

Here we go Grant here is the cage that\'s on order, as you can see its a bolt in that\'s fairly comprehensive and also one of the reasons I\'m getting as much weight out as possible.

BTW, At least the RX-8 hasn\'t got 2 foot thick slabs of sound deadening black goo like the RX-4, horrible stuff to remove, dug it off other race cars I\'ve built with a blow lamp, scraper and wire brush , and boy does it burn you if it gets on your skin while your doing it :eek

That cage looks really good. Doesn\'t like too heavy though so shouldn\'t outweigh the removals :) is this something you will be offering for sale as upgrade for parts for the rx8? Can it be bolted in with the interior still installed?

najiru

Looks good Clive, I\'ve said for a while if I was building a new racer I\'d use an rx8. Looks like you have quite a rapid build schedule too!
