im sorry to bring this thread from the dead... But are you saying he should make 200 more hp with 6 more psi???  If thats the case, then i need to go to him for rotary advise..

BlitzBoy

I think Will was talking about flywheel hp , 700 flywheel should be approx 600 rear wheel hp

Now thats impressive, well done to all involved :Thumbs-up
All the best Clive

re japi

Wow, how is that even possible...? :) Nice =D
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

It\'s called not having 0.8 bar boost till ~6500rpm! Large Turbine wheel and housing = less pumping losses against the engine and you can make big power at high revs with lowish boost.............. only problem is mid range is non existent and IF you try this on the street with quick transient response it would not make its full boost till 8000rpm or so especially in 1st, 2nd or maybe even 3rd gear as no where near as much load is applied as is on an artificial dyno run.

On the road this set up would be totally crap :)

On a drag strip with all the correct ancillaries it would be o.k. :Thumbsup!

Given it\'s an engine in a 9 second drag racer, albeit a road legal one, I doubt he\'s too concerned with the low rev flexibility.

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

Lets not sugar coat it, that motor would get beaten by a Datsun 120Y at any revs below 6000rpm lol. It would NEVER work in any road car, or with any road exhaust system, by work I mean fast. :Hammer

Classic case of way too big a turbo used :WaveBye

It\'s all about being fit for purpose.

The purpose of this car is to cover 1/4 mile as quickly as it can within the rules of its series.  I\'ve seen it run and it\'s damn impressive, it may well not be able to pull the skin off a rice pudding at low revs but it covers the 1/4 mile in 9.98 seconds (it did it on TV too) so I\'d say that his choice of turbo is pretty good for its purpose.

yes the engine/turbo config is built for purpose of drag racing, obviously on normal roads you would have a totally different configuration. He has a HKS dog box to help keep him high in the revs.

He is looking top hit mid to low 9s this year

BTH Driving the car on the street it is no where near as laggy as it looks on the Dyno, it has "full" 0.8 bar by 4600 rpm, i will try and take a in car video driving and maybe with a map trace to show the boost curve, even on a partial throttle the car pulls surprisingly well. btw the turbo is a 72mm inducer not as big as people think.

I can see the point of Rice, and also of the Jaydee. But, in my underdevelopment experience, which is getting development offcourse, I think, the statement of "fit for purpose" will be seen once the Car is shown in action...

The graph shows a lot and If I am not mistaken, Rice was suggesting his point of view on the figures shown in the Dyno Sheet.

Jaydee, has yet to provide the video to prove his point of "laggy" business...

the car is already fit for purpose nothing to prove , it has already run 9s with this engine and turbo last year, James did win the HKS Street class in 2010.
