Hi people,  I\'ve been the proud owner of a Rex for the past year but circumstances have forced me to put it up for sale:mad:

I thought I\'d be able to sell her without a problem, had a recent re-build (with invoice as proof) and a respray and the car is a very nice clean example of an RX7 and I believe I am selling her at a cheap price (up for £4750)!

I have had next to no interest, not even many questions about the car.....I know petrol consumption on these is a bit heavy but I am very surprised how the bottom has dropped out of the market, are others experiencing the same issues.

If I don\'t sell her soon, I am going to take her off the road because I ain\'t giving a car like this away for next to nothing :3Confused

Hi RX7

Its the market at the moment, two people I know who are and have been very successfull secondhand car dealers have both given up and got a proper job because not even the cheap student banger market is any good at the moment

Freddy

Any links to the car that you are selling, would be worth having a look.

Seems this topic will rage and rage, prices have been dropping for about a year or more, its not just rx\'s, you can find 500 hp r33\'s for £5k or so!

Infact its most cars, i had a friend loose £30k or so on a R8, probably did less than 1500 miles in it in 8 months.

Hence the reason so many are breaking decent cars, they are just worth more in parts and as more performance parts come on the market at sensible money, the cars with them on slide too, its a viscous circle.

Free bump and good luck with the sale.

Netherlands the same, only if talking about japanese cars its major cause is that you guys sell them so cheap.

Its just to easy to go get one in the uk for nice price that a car in good shape in the netherlands sells for half what it did a year or 2 years ago if it sells at all.

You would actually think the current poor exchange rate to the yen would help, however, i now hear the auctions in Japan are over flowing with cars and a few uk auction sites will be re opened due to the price drop over there!

No mystery here, I think. Everyone\'s going bust, being made redundant or just simply struggling to feed and clothe themselves because the UK is now in a worse financial state than many Third World countries.

Funnily enough, this means that many people currently aren\'t looking to buy a car that gets eight mpg, makes you go sterile from cooking your nads, deaf from exhaust and toxic from emmissions yet at the same time only allows you to pack nothing larger than a toothbrush, no matter how long you\'re going away for.

No reflection intended on the car for sale by the OP, I\'m sure it\'s lovely :Thumbs-up

Hmm I disagree... I find the market is pretty good.
We were just discussing this on the weekend (myself and another well known chancer in the Car scene) that FD prices have improved somewhat over a year ago.
And I am saying this from more of a buyers point of view..

On the plus side, it\'s never been cheaper to buy a gas guzzler :Giggle

True, can get loads of jap car for your money at the minute but I can believe the lack of interest, my car is in good nick its ending on pistonheads & ebay today and I haven\'t got a single question or phone call on it (starting at 3k)...hell fook it I\'m gonna keep it and buy a shed car for the winter!

This thing is way to nice to give away....girlfriend won\'t be happy meant to be getting funds together for house

The problem with that is the currency is working in our favour for export.

To sell an item for £100 to the states used to cost over $200, now it is $150.  Even more so with the Yen.  It does make me wonder what is going to happen to the items that are sold from Japan, as either the cut their profit margins or they are going to have to increase the prices substantially!  The Yen has gone from approx 250 to approx 125 in the last 3 years....thats half! :o  So you buy a fuel rail that cost £200 and now in theory it should cost £400

My fear for the lack of demand on the cars is that it will devalue the cars even further.  Encouraging even more people to buy them that cant afford to run them.  It really is a shadow of its former self...£39k from new!

As for the market in general, there was a report on the news yesterday morning that the used car market has picked up 10 fold!  They believe that fewer people are buying new cars, and so buying the demo cars or very nearly new....this has a knock on effect to pushing up the rest of the market.

Does anyone think the scrappage scheme had a de valuing effect on the 2nd hand car market.

BlitzBoy

I think the reverse, there are a lot less cheap run arounds to buy now, cars you used to be able to pick up for £500 seem to have up in value to about a £1000.
Seems the scrapage scheme has made the supply of cheap runarounds smaller

I will never understand the scrapage scheme!

Why was it aimed at all cars? You could use it to get £2k off a Lambo if you wanted!

How did it work for our economy?  It kept jobs in the garage sales industry....but that was in the best interest of the country supporting the cars manufacturing.

Personally I think the money should have only been applicable to cars such as some of the Nissans, Hondas and any other car that is manufactured here...so protecting jobs!  I still cant figure out why handing £2k towards a BMW helped us?
