Gotcha.  Another thought from a certain builder is the conversion from auto to manual could be the root cause - if the engine wasn\'t balanced, it could cause it to go out of whack...

Hi Bish,
The Mazda cast iron flywheels are balanced with the original engines,but also high rpm or low oil in the sump combined with high G cornering could start that problem.
What oil were you using?

We warranty our rebuilt engines for Detonation, track day\'s and RWYB and NOW for 30 months which is two and half years or 30,000 miles
We also build all types of race or road engines.
We build race and track cars too.
Any kind of porting undertaken.
Single turbo conversions.

Check out the rotary resurection site as well - he\'s got examples of damage, and the likely causes of them - an excellent site for showing what can happen !

Thanks for the reply chief.  Halfords Mineral oil - same as for the previous 5 years...  It was at (high) motorway speeds in france.  Temps started to rise VERY quickly, and when keyed off, the engine cut out straight away.

talking of which - what liquid to use in my parts washer that I got xmas before last and never unwrapped?  Would Petrol be OK as a degreaser?

I used that Comma Hyperclean - that stuff is good - really gets the oil, looser carbon and general crud off easily

Quick question - what is it with the different sized 13btt stationary bearings???  From Mazdatrix:

Thickest is .07874" (least clearance) minus thinest of .07795" = .00079 TOTAL range --- This is LESS than ONE thou !

Can someone help here?  I\'m replacing an eshaft into a pre-existing stationary gear - howdo I measure 0.02 mm difference?

Dial Gauge, or micrometer, but it\'s curved isn\'t it, so not sure how easy that would be ?

on a shaft that is used but in good condition generally this one will suit,but measure to be sure.

right, so shiny new eshaft, measured up in several places, along with the stationary gear (sans bearing).
- EShaft av diameter is 42.92
- Gear av diameter is 47.02
so to get clearances for different bearings is:

(Gear dia - eshaft dia)/2 - bearing width, right?

so that gives us these clearances:

eshaft,   stationary gear,   bearing thickness,       clearance
