Whats holding the rad up then ?

Quote from: Grant Monkhouse;685640Yes they are 3 inch. The elbow will only be gong on when I get my single trbo bits, the turbo I am getting will be a 4094 so 2 3/8 of in inch will be too small for the outlet on that trbo, I think. Also the outlet for my intercooler is 3 inch so would be a bit daft reducing it back down. Not too worried about it yet as I still have few things to but, including the turbo, which isn\'t cheap!

Must have missed the pctures of your ported t/b as been a while since a read the first page. Will have a look back through though.

ah cool, i dont really know anything about your car, have you got a build thread or some pics for me to have a nose at?

if you havent bought the turbo then i wouldnt, get a borgwarner turbo, will do the same thing as the garrett while being ALOT cheaper, do you have a power goal?

Quote from: Grant Monkhouse;685643How much material has been taken out of the t/b? That looks really good, will deffinately get mine ported out when going single as I am running very large stree ports, maybe somewhere near to the size of yours.

I am using my Iphone for the internet so I can post a reply quicker than the pictures upload. Hope you succeed in reaching 200 on your budget, makes me think how silly I was to put a full veulside bodykit on my car when I could have spent more money on the perfomance, but then again my car wouldn\'t look as good as it does.

we both have large street ports so will be good to see how we compare:D who did your build?

Im not sure how much was taken out, quite a bit looking at it, the most important bit is to make a sharp point to split the air so theres less turbulence, also why dont you port the throttle body and remove the secondary throttles while your there, thats gotta help loads, use my pics for reference!

theres 2 dowls at the bottom of the cooler, make 2 brackets with a hole in each for the dowls to go in, also bend a 90* on the bracket that sits at the back of the cooler so it cant fall backwards, ill try and draw you a picture

turbotoaster

here you go, hope this helps

the bracket is all one piece, but found it hard to draw to show that

Grant Monkhouse

Haven\'t got a build thread or anything, will send you some pictures this weekend if I get the time.

Haven\'t bought the turbo yet as the 4094 is really expensive but may be able to get it cheaper than retail price. Haven\'t heard anything about the borgwarner turbos? Are they a ballbearing turbo or a normal journal bearing? How much cheaper are they?

Hayward rotary built my engine but my dad did the porting on it before we took my car and bits down to him to be built, apparently they are bigger than what carl does with the porting.

I don\'t have a power goal, will be happy with what it has when the tub is on

Grant Monkhouse

Not too sure about taking the double throttles out as I use my car all year round, even in the snow so don want to accdentally Cain the car when it\'s not fully warmed up when some ....ty impreza thinks he has a fast car!

How come your looking at the 4094, im guessing your after well over 500bhp, a gt4088 did 530bhp at 1.2bar which is a smaller turbo.

personally i wouldnt bother paying garrett prices unless it was on offer in america, i can get a gt42 for £600 plus shipping so i think thats reasonable, anymore than that and your getting your pants pulled down, massive rotary EGTs arnt a BB turbos best friend neither.

Well on the turbo choice and price there are two things i need to ask you, will you plan on run big boost on race gas in the future....say at santa pod, or will this only ever run low boost on pump fuel?

Also you say you dont have a power goal in mind but you must have a rough idea.......if i offered you 400bhp or 600bhp which would you choose?

for me it doesnt have any negative effects on how the car drives, i got rid of all the cold start stuff, ill just let the engine throw in fuel as normal while its warming up, dont really need it any more.

I used mine over winter, even driving sideways everywhere at 5mph in the snow

This made me laugh:rollin
Just let them past lol...

Get an oil temp gauge and dont give it some untill its nice and warm. Simple!.

thers no chance im ever going to let an ugly impreza drive past me when i know his car is rubbish!:Giggle I am going to go out and fing a new GTR skyline line is around huddersfield and show him that his 50,000 pound car isnt all that too. LOL. As i reckon power to weight ratios will be somewhere near the same.

Well if i could get 600bhp and the car be as driveable as it is then that would be brilliant, a gt42 would probably be too big for my car, wouldnt want a huge kick in the arse when the turbo spools up.

The reason i want the 4094 is that a lot of people go for the 4088(journal) and i want to have something different.

My engine isnt built for huge amounts of boost, have been told that the mapping for the gt4094 would be around 0.7-0.9 of a bar as you dont have to run a lot of boost to get a lot out of a large frame turbo.

Will you be downsizing your turbo after you  acheive 200mph? If so what will you be going for?

I went down to the cinemas in my car in the snow, car park was solid ice and released the clutch on tickover and went pratically around the car park sideways. Drifting at 1mph was prety funn!!!

turbotoaster

You shouldnt be thrashing a cold engine anyway, whether it has the butterflies in or not....its to avoid the worst of the effects, not all of them.

well a 480bhp rx7 is faster on track than a new gtr tuned to 630bhp, power to weight makes a big difference, but probably getting good traction out of the corner is what wins the day, this is where the skyline shines.

if you want to see that race i can probably find you a link for it.

there is no point going for a 4094 just so you can run 0.1bar less than a 4088 \'just to be different\' getting a journal bearing 4088 will be fine for what you want if high 400s is your aim, they give a wide powerband and produce decent power.

a gt35 is on full boost at 3500rpm and a gt4088 will be on full boost by 4k max, that will give you a 4krpm powerband, more than enough.

having a big turbo only really makes sense in my eyes for big boost as thats when you benefit the most.

You need to balance power against powerband, your ports will probably be like mine, i should be 1bar of boost at 4.5krpm and 20psi at 4.7-4.8krpm thats for a 550bhp on pump fuel turbo could you live with that, or would you like it earlier at the cost of power?

I wont be downsizing the turbo as im fine with having a powerband of 5krpm-9krpm

Grant Monkhouse

Tbh I could lIve with that, but would a gt42 bE too big for that? As LNG ad the car is driveable I would be happy witht it( I have driven my car with the intercooler pipes blown off and it was quick to 5000rp bt after that prety rubbish so I guess I could live with a bit of lag.

Is the gt42 you can get a garett?

Think I need to look more into turbo technolgy, don\'t know enough apart from he way they work

turbotoaster

if your looking at a gt42 then get a borgwarner s475 with a t4 1.10 A/R rear housing, will do same power as gt42 will do, spool about 300-400rpm earlier and costs £523 plus shipping.

that will hit 1bar at 4.5k(which is the boost you will run) if you want 1bar at 4k then run a 0.90 rear, it shouldnt be restrictive as your only running pump fuel boost

Im gonna use a t6 housing which is larger and cheaper(£406) but it means im gonna have to have someone make me a manifold as you cant get a premade one with a t6 flange on.

Saying that if i could get a ebay manifold braced up then id use a t4 version but the wastegate pipe isnt big enough for the wastegate i want

Ed_RX7

i think you would do best to ask someone who has used one of these ion the uk and get their experiences...and go from that tbh...as there are quite a few variable to consider.
