On tuesday I will be faced with a large bill to replace my power steering cooler pipe, so I just wanted to ask how much people think my Turbo II is worth if I were to sell it. The specs are:

1991 turbo II in gray
No rust
just over 80k miles
Replacement exhaust that has removed the precat in the down pipe
New Mazda power steering cooler pipe
Good tyres on stock 16" turbo II rims
Boost guage
Cabriolet Turbo II aluminium bonnet
Minor dent and a few stone chips
Everything else in basically stock condition

Come off it mate jeez, just replace the damn pipe and keep it. It\'s just a pipe, no need to worry. DIY it.

Rotechniks won\'t release the car

RobbieRX-7

how come? Are they obliged to take more money off you just to replace a ps pipe which quite frankely is a p o p to replace. I call bs. Just call them and pay them for the work done, get the fc home and we will help you.

I bought a replacement part of pete taylor, Rotechniks then fitted it (which took about 3 hours) only to find that there was a leak in the pipe. I would have thought they would check a part before starting a 3 hour fitting process at a cost of several hundred. I now have to get a new part from mazda costing £140, and then them to fit the pipe again. I don\'t know why they couldn\'t just use some compressed air to see if it was leaking in the first place. Also I know some people who have just bypassed the pipe with just a bit of rubber tube as the cooler pipe is only for track days as day to day driving isn\'t going to heat up the fluid much.

They aren\'t happy to give me the car back, even though I have been running without fluid in the old pipe since I bought it months and months ago.

unless its in for a MOT and its unsafe to drive - but im sure they should still release it

UNLESS - you cant afford to pay for the pipe thats already been fitted by them ??

we need more info on this matey

Im happy to pay the £400 odd its cost to get it that far, like I said ive been running without fluid in my power steering for a while now, power steering still works fine though. I should have just booked it in for a compression test and a check up, I don\'t see how the car is unfit to drive?

I got there this morning before they opened and was the first car there, as I needed to get away for about 2pm or so, I was told it was a 3 hours job or there abouts, so I figured late afternoon should be fine as it was all booked in this morning. I had to go by 2pm as its my mates birthday and wanted to go see him this evening. Got a call at about 4pm saying that the pipe had a leak and that I couldn\'t have my car back today. Luckly they have loaned me a \'car\' until then cause I have work 2morrow, friday, saturaday morning and monday, im not local and its about an hour to get there and tuesday was my only day off that they were open. I don\'t see why I wasn\'t allowed my car, especially as I could try and put some pipe over the cooler pipe due to the low pressure nature of the cooling system. Needless to say im not going to be going to there for my engine rebuild, if I do indeed keep the car, whenever I do get it back.

by the way you said "car" im guessing they gave you the 1.3 micra with a catback?

i find it odd that they can keep your car tho. TBH i also found it odd when they refused to give me my exhaust back...

Mate you can have my power steering cooler pipe for £10, guarenteed no leaks, still fitted to the car but takes literally 2 min to remove. No idea how they figured 3 hours?

I\'d go there and fit the damn thing myself for you if it was closer..  Kinda annoys me that people have to second think owning these cars cause of stuff like this!

RobbieRX-7

It takes about 3 hours to remove an engine if you\'ve never done it before. It does not take 3 hours to repace a ps pipe. I would ask them for an explanation if i were you cus your being exploited

flatout

i have one here you can have for the price of postage,10min job to fit it mate,i would be looking for an explanation also,

m1tch

I will ask them on tuesday when I get the car back, I already got a used part that failed, so they are ordering in a new mazda 1 for £140

Nik da Greek

Sounds as though they\'re taking the p!ss out of you there, mate. I certainly wouldn\'t be keen to pay a garage 400 of your fine English pounds for utterly failing to complete the work and fix a specific fault, even if they were using secondhand parts. Like you said, they should\'ve pressure tested it first, especially as, like you implied, they weren\'t happy with its condition in the first place. But three hours to replace a PAS cooling pipe is a blatant wind-up in anyones book

m1tch

What gets me is that the power steering works ok with low fluid, yes it does leak a bit but there isn\'t much there to actually leak and its had no fluid in it for about 3 years lol

pdtaylor18

Well i have another pipe if you need it. Strange cos it never leaked on the car. Takes me about 20 mins to remove the whole pipe. I would never want to be the cause of a person to sell his car !!!  Tell them to release the car with the leak or you will take them to trading standards, Its your choice to get the pipe replaced and not theirs. Certainly would not pay £140 for a new one.  Be interesting to find out where the leak is? maybe a pic. That was a good bit of tubing as well.  Flipping cheek of that company.
