Bad luck ...yeh, 120 seems to be the pop off point. I know mine did, just had to take out one more car ar Brands :driving

My question is tho why did the temps get to 120 ? Sure things will pop off at 120 but why did it get there.

No idea, my guess is that fan didnt come on?

I tried to move it just now, and guess what.

It doesnt start.

Thinking im going to sell up and go back to Skylines lol

Fan trouble ......... yeh, quite possibly ....... It does happen. When I first had mine one of the fans packed up and mine started to overheat in traffic.

Good luck, ......... not starting is not good ..... if that is not stating the obvious :Hammer  ..... When I blew my pipes off on track going over 120 degress it got me home but when I tried to start it a few days later it wouldn\'t start and the water seals had gone.

I checked the fans just now, they both come on fine, i took it for a drive down the road and the temp rose up too quickly for my liking, again i turned it off before it hit the red

When i stopped it i could hear it hissing and see it steaming once again, i opened the bonnet and it appeared to be comming from a small black box/cover just infront of the inlet, in the middle of the engine, ive got some pics ill post them later.

So all the money i got for christmas is going to be spent on fixing my car, seems a terrible waste lol

Jit

sounds like its coming from the hose behind the water pump housing..

how far up the gauge did it climb?

Dele

Before i turned it off?

Just below the red

Jit

oh no :(
sounds to me like it might already have had it.... :(
sounds like u got about 120 degC which aint great for a rotary.....

Dele

if it had already had it surely it should be ****ing out dirty amounts of smoke?

(which it isnt, even slightly smoking)

Jit

im just speaking from experience on one of my engines that did that ..... failed within 500 miles.... :(
Anyways, lets not condemn it yet.... get those hose changed and see if it makes an difference....it definitely sounds like the hose that goes from the back of the WP housing to the rats nest...its a sort of L shaped hoses if my memory serves me right...and youll need to remove probably the alternator, water filler neck, water pump and possibly the airpmp to get to the water pump housing...i think you then got to undo all the nuts holding the WP housing to the engine and then pull it forward to access the hose...even then i ant remember if you need to remove the plenum for access or not!

Jit

Also what psi pressure cap are you running?

If its the hose i\'m thinking it may be, its the one from the back of the stat housing, it may be split! i replaced mine, i think you only need to take off the Alternator, have a look in \'search\' for \'Thermoswitch mod\' by Bob picture no 10, you can just see the outlet from stat housing on the very left, from the red arrow, it\'s only a short hose, the other end is under the Alt, best use a Mazda hose. best not to run it till it.s sorted, good luck, Bob

Dele

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies, i havent really run it at all since this has happened, only to move it from the garage to the drive and then to clear the over fuelling, not been thrashed or anything.

Im not mechanically minded but luckily my mate is so ill get him over and we\'ll investigate, im pretty certain its a hose that blew because the "pop" did sound like something blowing, nothing metalic.

Will let you guys know :Thumbsup!

Overheating is such an issue with rotaries I\'m surprised that many people still do not upgrade their guages to give themselves an early warning. The problem is very well documented and the choice of guages is plentiful. I\'m a great lover of original ( or as near a dammit ) classic cars but one of the first jobs after purchase  was to fit quality guages. All my SAGA guages have alarms set to go off prior to any serious issues developing.  I\'ve set the water guage alarm to 95C as it should not get that high during normal running, winter or summer. You cannot fail to miss the alarm when it goes off :2eek
This ain\'t gone to help your current situation but I hope its a near miss and your  motor has survived unharmed.  Good luck and HNY !!:cheers

Ok, i took a look at where the steam was comming from (circled in the first picture) then had a look inside

I found one pipe that looks like its disconnected completly, which i didnt think was right because of the obvious, and because there was one identical next to it that was attached.

Then afew centimeters next to it was another pipe that has split where it connects a metal pipe, the line is to show where the pipe leads

Sorry for the poor quality, its my camera phone, hope it helps

Martiny

Ok, I cant see the split pipe, but it could be a water feed for the Turbo, these do break.

The other blank pipe you show is normal, its only used on an auto.
