Advantages of 2001 Twin Turbos over 1992 model Twin Turbos.  What advantages would i get upgrading???? is it worth doing??

Grizzly

There is no Advantage.

You need 2001 RZ turbo\'s or Spirit (from memory) and i don\'t have to tell you there rare, once you have a set you are still limited by the Bearings (they need 360 bearings to run over 1bar) the only Advantage is they run slightly more power at the same Psi of boost.

If you are thinking of Upgrading the Twins find your self a set of BNR stage 3\'s and you\'ll be very happy. (well apart from the Price ;))

The later model turbo\'s were a different model to the early units.

They changed the vein design to allow for the higher boost (from 10-8-10, to 12-10-12) along with the ECU change.

I have a very late set of turbos fitted to my FD at the moment and there is little to no diffrence in them, I have not got them Smoking yet so its possable to seals are better but without 360 bearings they won\'t be going over 1 bar.

Don\'t get the late RZ mixed up with the Standard Fd Turbo\'s becouse they where Bigger.

The BNRs are $200 cheaper than a new set of 99 spec turbos, I know, I\'m buying some!

I\'m lead to believe that 99 spec turbos had uprated internals and this together with ECU mods that meant 280 BHP was offered on the later models

Grizzly you are quite correct regarding the 360 degree bearing.  Hence the BNRs.  I am looking forward to getting them fitted, I\'ll be sure to post a report.  I\'m going to run them as god intended...sequentially.

i know of somebody who has a 99 plate fd and hes talking about converting them to non sequential and says \'You can run almost twice the boost according to this guy i was talking to in america. They max out at around 400rwhp\' is he talking out his ass? or is this true??

See what Warthog was putting out on twin turbos (before he went single), I believe he was over 400rwhp (it was monster what ever it was).  I know of a car doing 370rwhp on twins.

Its all irrelevant really.  If you want cheap monster HP, and you crave a drap car go single turbo.  If you are going non sequential by a single turbo.  It will liberate more hp non sequentially I believe (Carl Hayward does it I believe).

At the end of the day what sort of car do you want?  For driveability you can not beat twins.  For monster BHP you can\'t beat single turbos.  I may be simplifying, but I\'m a simple man.  Decide what you want and then start saving!

I think i might just save up and go single :p

im in the middle of going single just transfered paypal$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The 99 spec turbo\'s up to 2002 have a few changes in them that mean that they are more efficient.
The turbines have one less blade on them, and this means they flow more exhaust gas.
The compressor and housings are a much tighter tolerance which means a more efficient operation,as they do not heat the air as much.
It is quite noticeable that there is a difference in my opinion.

BNR stage 3s? yes i sound stupid but who does them and where can i see the spec of them as well. Iv actually bought a set of 99 spec turbos with the y pipe and yeh your right they are pretty pointless lol but theyl do if you like a smooth boost response. but yes i am bord need more power!!!

its ok just answred my own question RX7store.net. hmmm.....do they fit the stock manifold? opinions on these? anyone had them yet? and last of all what power can they handle on the non sequentials?

Grizzly

Yeh they go on a stock Manifold and can be set up Seq or none seq.

BNR have there own web site too but for the life of me i can\'t find it at the moment.

jammy_uv

yeh nice one. are they actually any gud? has any one had em on in the UK. only reason im stickin to twins is because not that many ppl do. wana prove its a gud 1....plus wana keep my greddy fmic rather than modifyin it or buyin a new one :-)

Grizzly

Basicly this is where they fall down, The Uprated twins are realy good if you like the feel of the stock twins but want more power, BUT!! for the same money or a little more you can get a decent Single kit which will get rid of alot of the stuff that causes problems on a Third Gen.

So Even though the BNR\'s are very good and you can get good power from them people go the single route to keep it simple and get some extra space, Plus the more the power goes up the more you will have problems in the Wet with the second turbo spooling up and making you face the wrong way ;) the Single Turbo\'s tend to be alot Smoother and Pridictable.
