Mmmmm something is deffinately not right, still cant remove the bolt.

Tried : Breaker bar, Impact driver with big hammer, heat, lots of oil, swearing at it and looking at it in discust (which i\'m surprised didnt work!! :D)

So all I have done since is remove the gearbox, so I can at least get that all cleaned and inspected.

Ah well, Im off to Shelsley Walsh today, taking my grandad there for his 88th birthday  :cheers   (he keeps asking to go in one of those 2 seater F1 cars!  :Giggle )

Ricco_04

Cool day at Shelsley Walsh - even managed to not get soaked!  :Giggle

Managed to get that bolt out today, HORAY!! (thanks Grizzy   :cheers )  world have helped if they hadnt used blue thread lock on it     The rebuild dvd just shows him putting vasalene on it!  :2Rolleyes

So as soon as it was out, off down to the pub to celebrate!  :guinness  (no wonder I never seem to get anything done!  :Giggle )

Chrikey - has it really been May since I last posted on this! :2eek :2Confused   How time fly\'s!

As an update from the last picture - the engine bay has lost a good load of the items that where still in there.  From the top of my head

master cylinder\'s
brake lines
engine mounts
gearbox
headlights
both washer fluid tanks
and an assortment of other things - mmmm where does it all go

Mostly these past few months I have been concentrating on rust removal.  It\'s amazing where the rust appears, where you expect and where you dont.  Like where they cover the panels with that silicone stuff - well underneath that! lol  So I have been taking the rust back to lovely shiney metal and then painting up myself - I have improved so much :D  Although when it\'s all ready then the car will go in for a complete respray.

Also taken the rust off the wing\'s, bumper support\'s and repairing the splitter with fiberglass.  Also starter repairing the dent in the passanger side wing - dent taken out reasonably well and a layer of filler has been applied - just waiting on some stainless steel fittings to attach it to the car and begin sanding that down.

I have a nice assortment of parts that I would like to get shot blasted and then powder coated to get rid of more rust, stopping it happening again and cause it looks so damm good :D

Engine is still on the floor in the garage waiting for winter to come when I will take it apart and do the necessary - although I have been looking at that ebay link with a 3rotor 12A engine for sale

Anyway I shall stop my rambling cause I could drone all day :Hammer

I have cleaned and stripped of rust under this arch and applied 2 layers of underseal - think it looks ok?

This is the best shot I seem to have of the bay, have to get a better one! but at least you can see here what I have been doing regards to removing rust and repainting :

Car now looks like this from the front :

Thanks for the interest :wave

grinder

Cheers guys.

Can\'t remember if I had already said but I am contemplating spraying the bay black - it will hide any future oil spots that build up again and again but mostly for the face that black and a little bit of chrome goes a long way!  Not sold on it 100% cause i\'m not keen oncars with one colour outside to another one in the bay!  So gonna give the entire bay a couple of full coat\'s when im happy with it.

What you recon - black or white?

Kron

Definately white, And try and polish the metal parts instead of chrome if you can.

Chrome really should have died a death in the 90\'s. Bloody Americans ;)

LMAO :D

Which is the easier to keep clean though? (I enjoy low meintenance and high drive time :D)

Little update.....

I have brought a few stainless steel fittings for putting the bodywork back together with.

The lip splitter was actually damaged - so I have fiberglassed that back together.  And attached it back onto the nose.

All the front bumper supports have been stripped down to bear metal, repainted and fitted back together.

My front left wing which had the parking damage in has been shaped back so it\'s reasonably straght.  1st layer of filler has been added and smoothed down.  For my first effort I was actually quite impressed with how I did! :)  It\'s all a learning expearience :)

Moved the car away from the bloomin hedge and turned it around so I can work on the other side easier.  All the front left arch has been washed of all the crud - most of the rust has been taken out (it\'s pretty much all serface but it need\'s doing else no point in the 1st place!) Again most of the rust is all under where the panel\'s have been sealed   but thankfully not too bad. 1 bolt left to undo in the shock here which is proving to be a right pain in the butt but just a matter of using more swear word\'s! :D  All the rest where easy - even the 4 nuts on the top which where just nipped up and not properly tight!

With the cold now properly set in im turning my sight\'s to the engine.  I finially managed to get myself a normal hex pattern 54mm socket and a beefy breaker bar to crack this bugger off.  Thinking im gonna need a million people to get this done I used my usuall blisfull ignorance and had a go on my own.  I lugged the engine over to something solid, anchored it all down, and attached the weapons - which included an 8ft long pole! :spank   Didn\'t even take my own weight and I had the begger off!  Very happy with that one and done all by myself :D :D :D

Can\'t wait to get the engine apart and finially see what\'s been going with it. :)

Grizzly

Be carfull with stainless bolts etc, We unfortunatly work on alot of Lotus\'s and VX220\'s and there for ever snapping becouse there Brital.

If you want some advise use copper Lube when you put them in.

Ricco_04

Ah I get you - I knew there was something which people warned about them but couldn\'t remember.  I shall be using the stainless nut\'s bolts etc for bodywork only - I was thinking they should not corrode up and be easier to undo - but if they are brittle and brake.    Mmmmmmm guess you cant win!

Thanks for the knowledge, I by no mean\'s know lot\'s but am learning and eger to do so! :Thumbs-up

Ricco_04

Well I got myself buisy today and stripped the entire engine.  The first time I have ever seen one of these open in the flesh.  I have to say that I actually really enjoyed every moment of it and especially as it all went without hitch!  Also (sounds silly) but nothing inside there was a surprise, except what good condition everything appeared to be, or at least to the eye! ;)

The rotor\'s didn\'t weigh as much as I expected but my god, the eccentric shaft is a bit heavy!! :eek   and the inside of the housing just seems even smaller than I was expecting.  What a cool little engine.

Gonna have to start cleaning them all up tomorrow and then have to buy a few tool\'s to measure up all tolerence\'s.  Will post up some picture\'s from today when I get back - im going out to relax! :D :WaveBye

Grizzly
