Hi Fly,

Clearly you\'ve just come back on here to have a pop at the decent folk of MRC and defend the honour of you coop.  Of course, if it were all that decent it\'d defend it\'s own honour.  Oh well!

Have a nose round the rest of the forum and you\'ll see it\'s still the same, if slightly larger, place it always was.  People looking to prettify their cars, peopl eloking to keep them reliable, people looking to make them faster/handle better/stop.  I doubt you will though - it\'ll just remind you about what you\'re missing!

If you seriously think the handling on a sorted coop is up to that of a sorted FD then please get someone from your forum to enter the Tine Attack series.  There are a few FDs running, it\'s be nice to see how far behind you guys finish ;)

Seriously though - we all love our cars and you don\'t need to take anything too seriously.  We\'re all enthusisiasts and have more in common than our differences!

First contact has finally been made!

I don\'t take my coop to track days. It has a totally standard suspension set up and if i\'m totally honest, it would be a nightmare. I personally think my MX5 would be all over it on a tightish track. It isn\'t a purpose built sports car and I have no doubt that any FD (even the uk spec :D) would eat it alive on a track. I won\'t be taking mine to a track ever, as I don\'t think it\'s even worth bothering trying to sort the handling out.

There are fccuk members that have taken on the challenge of making a car with 67-70% of it\'s weight over the front wheels capable on a track however. I have no doubt that these fellas would gladly meet up for a test, but I won\'t.

The only reason I post on here is because I personally would like to find out how quick a rex is at various states of tune. Our forum has good ties with the 200SX guys and lately the Evos has been encroaching on us. Several ex-coop owners have switched to them and we\'re getting feed back on comparisons. They have an annual (I believe) 30-130mph officially timed test day at an airstrip which I think is a great indication of a cars real-world grunt.
Some of our members also go the the TOTB event, and a great percentage do 1/4mile runs regularly.

9.6 quarter is the current 3rd Gen record for a UK car :)

The 30-130 challenge sounds interesting, I\'m sure you\'d have no problem finding people, me included, who\'d be happy to come along and represent the 7 and the rotary in general.

Of course, it could be seen to be making excuses saying your car doesn\'t go round corners.  TOTB should be fun as there are a few FDs going there too.

Healthy competition is a good thing and we should encourage it.  Better to do it in a sensible environment than road racing IMO.

\'My\' car doesn\'t go round corners, i\'ve said it time and time again. Coops are crippled over the 1/4 mile, that\'s why i don\'t bother with that too. It is FWD and IS fooked at most performance discplines IMO. Some of our guys will disagree with me, and as I say, they aspire to sort out the handling.

They do, however go like stonk with a few mods.

I\'ll get on the 30-130mph day thing then. Lots of our boys are interested too. Here\'s a link to it\'s discussion on our forum, if you\'re interested

Quote from: TrappyHow much power do you need to real in this lot:
Griffith 500
Tuscan
Cerb 4.2
Ferrari 360

OK I\'ve owned 2 Griff 500\'s, 2 Tuscans and a 4.5 litre Cerbie so may be able to help here!

Griff - 320 Bhp it says on the tin from a 5 litre V8 - in reality you\'d be lucky to see 280bhp at the rear wheels. My RX is definately quicker with fairly mild mods.

Tuscan - I had 4.0 litre straight 6 Tuscans (they later went to 3.6 litre for reliability reasons) The 4.0 litre was supposidly 380 bhp again a little optimistic and mine were 340 and 360 rwhp on a dyno. Point to point I\'d give it to the RX as both Tuscans were not as well planted as the RX. Straight line would be bloody close.

Cerbera 450 - 420 bhp 420 lb/ft torque both on the tin and dynoed from a 4.5 litre V8. This was a flying machine and my RX wouldn\'t see which way it went. The 4.2 litre Cerbera\'s aren\'t far behind a 4.5 but the 4.5 is definately the daddy.

Never had a Ferrari 360 so I wouldn\'t know but I do know that a 360 was humbled by my mighty Cerbera...

Cheers

That\'d be a dead discussion from April then...  Looks like your lot didn\'t turn up at the MLR day!  Or are you organising one of your own?

I\'m sure that\'s not quite what fly meant. I have an article at home from an autocar issue. The fd (uk spec) featured in a mini feature near the back of the mag. Think it was past master\'s or something. Off the top of my head it states that were it not for the poor fuel consumption and price (i think), then this car would have been the sports car sensation of the \'90s.

The general motoring community just doesn\'t rate it as an all time great, like it does the cossy, 968cs, E36 M3, NSX etc. That doesn\'t mean it\'s not a great car, just that all things considered by joe public, it\'s got too much going against it.

BTW, we\'ve found the mystery RX7 that raced our guy. It was boggo standard except for decat and ss zorst (plus obviously dv and maybe a spark plug in the zorst:)) so we\'re thinking 280-300bhp?

Our guy was 320-330bhp and 300lbs/ft.

John Yorke

boggo standard FD [backbox wont make much difference] from japan - 255 -265bhp

Sorry to butt in guys\' and girls\',I had a Fiat Coupe snorting and farting next to me on the M3 yesterday trying to get my attention...:3gears-rh  but alas I had the 2 lil ones in the car with me,so it was no go....:Grrr ..personally I think he was jealous cos his car cannot brap-brap and all the GIRLS were looking at the 7 instead of his car...:guinness..seen him around so will jump on his tail one day  :evillaugh

Adriansturgess

But be careful he could be running 500bhp at the front wheels...:bandit :flamed :Hammer
FD or not FD? that is the question.

See, that\'s where you\'re missing the point.  Using \'sports car\' and \'fuel economy\' in the same sentence clearly shows a lack of understanding :)

Also, sports cars - I\'ll give you the 968 and the NSX but the others are saloon cars (albeit fast buggers).  Same as the coop really - it\'s not a sports car just a quick Coupe.  It\'d be a sports car if the power went to the right wheels but there you go.  I don\'t make the rules, that\'s just the way it is!
