Guys

Im still cant decide what colour to respray my FD.  I want something with a bit of class as I dont want that boy racer look.  I LOVE black cars, that look after just having polished it... nothing like it.  But if im going to the expense of getting a respray I would ideally like a non-factory colour.  Ive sought of tied it down to a dark maroon mettallic or the RX8 blue, but.......

ive just noticed that my C West light conversion has the \'border\' matched to the colour of my car (pic attached).  I can imagine this being loads of agro a) changing the colour on the inside of the lens and b) finding a matching vinyl to match te blue or maroon.

So im thinking.... how about a two tone paint job?  keeping the pearl white at the front and changing to the RX8 blue at the back?  I thought that might look quite nice before.

So opinions would be great - dont want it too look crap and reduce the value of the car.  Also, anyone got any ideas of how the cross over from white to blue should be done ie staggered, straight line and where abouts to change?

Any Paintshop gurus fancy a play?   :)

gmogle

You dont want that boy racer look......look at that spoiler !!!!!

Just joking mate, nice looking car. not a big fan to the two tone jobs, prefer a solid colour.

Heres an idea....dont shoot me down, how about getting the whole car bar the front light bits and the wing mirrors in the blue you mentioned. Then the car would have the white alloys, white light cover bits and white wing mirrors plus you could do the centre of the rear wing white ? Prob a stupid suggestion but an idea.

I do like the RX black but I am constantly cleaning mine lol

Gmogle:  thanks for the suggestion.  I actually quite like that idea.  Thing is its one of those that would either look fantastic or could end up looking pants. And after spending that sort of money that would be hard to swallow  :(  Suppose I could do it then if I change my mind do the whole thing in the blue??   I was planning to have the wheels in Anthracite or Black with a polished lip.  Perhaps I could have then redone in white with the polished lip?  mmmmm  (any one any good on Paintshop who could do this for me?  I would owe you a  :beer

Why not look at a flip coat to go over the white???? I know they normaly go over black but you can realy change the way the flip colour rects by using a different base coat!!!

You can realy get some nice effects if you go for the right one!!!!

that sounds good as well.  Ive always considered flip paint jobs to be expensive though - but as I have the white base coat would this reduce the cost?  My white is a slight pearl (if that makes a difference?)

the 2 tone idea sounds good, although for the colour transition, I would have the white fading into the blue, rather than a solid or staggered line. Obviously this will need a very good sprayer to pull this off and blend all of the car uniformely. However, what I suggest you do first mate, is go to a good bodyshop of your choosing and look through their colour swatches.. you may see a colour that jumps out at you. Rage and House of colour do some very striking pearls, candys and flips.

M@r]{

Yeah, I would prefer the fade to be honest.  Have you got the contact details of this body shop?

I have been recommended by a couple of people about this place.....

anyone on here had any dealings?

How many Liters/Pints/Gallons do you need to spray a car

#9
I sprayd my hilux 2 years ago with about 1 liter of black base coat (plus thinner & hardner so it probably worked out about 1.5 - 2 liters in total) and about 2/3rds of a liter of laquer!!

Always better to get too much rather than too little!! I\'d be looking at about 1.5 liters of base coat +hardner & thiner and about 1 liter of laquer + hardner & thiner to do an FD!!!!

But it depends on what paint eg. pearl / flip coats probably 2 liters!!!

all you would need to do if you were to put a flip over your white base is key it up and your ready to go!!!! scotch pad the whole car to brake the shine then your set to mask and spray your flip / pearl / candy or what ever you choose straight over the existing paint!!

unless there are some dents you have to remove / fill, you should half the cost of the respray, prob about £500 rather than 1000 - 1500!! especialy if you prep the bodywork!!

it depends on the type and the coverage properties of the paint and also if you have the flatbacked or brought down to the metal. Darker colours cover better, but lighter colours often take more paint to stop the ground coat showing through. In the end on my FD, it took nearly 5 litres of colour before the clear coat went on!

So let me get this straight:  it would cost me less to have a flip?  Wow, that would be great.  I would only want a subtle flip though.   So what colours would work well with the white base coat?

Maybe I could do my two tone idea, but with the white having a blue flip to match the back  ie: in some lights it looks as though the car is all one colour!  :)

I don\'t know of any in the Cornwall area, only of ones around here..
If this company has had people singing it\'s praises then probably is good.

M@r]{

Or around Milton Keynes.....

Not necessarily. Take into consideration the cost of the piant itself can vary greatly from as little as £150 to £800+ per litre of paint.
