the RE ports and the runners in the LIM are huge compared to FD and FC engines.   Just goes to show you with Ants car that you dont need massive pipe work or exhausts to make masive power, Ants car has faily small pipe work and is about the same as stock FD,  i thought we were reaching the maximium power with stock throttle boddies and LIM\'s but it appears not....    its getting good though!

Ant,  I appreciate that you had very little traction but i would have thought your terminals would have been higher than 122 MPH with that much power.  Did the rear wheels grip at all on the 1/4 mile?
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Quote from: A7NTY2) No traction whatsoever and anyone that says it makes no difference to terminal is totally wrong, think about it in terms of physics. With a good launch the car could do nearer a 130mph terminal I reckon.

Might make a fractional difference but only 1 or 2 mph - my opinion because...

Chimeara 500 at Brunters recently.

VMaxed at 156mph on the long streight carrying ~80mph onto it.

On a run where he spun on the bottom end (and was therefore carrying 0mph onto the streight) he Vmaxed at 154mph.

Might be a bit more of a difference in big BPH cars with big speed and maybe it could max out at 200+ in good conditions but the length of the streight is immaterial after a point.

1.25miles might be a bit short but 1.5 or 2 would definately be enough.

I Vmaxxed @ 153 on the day @ Brunters and the car might have had another 1 or 3 mph in it and that\'s with 293 rwhp (although intake temps were seriously high and power would\'ve been compromised).

Just my (controversial) 2p.

true ... the best example however is a superbike. Small frontal area and small mass = lots of performance for your horsepower

Oh you guys you!

-RE just means you have to hack less out of them, u end up with the same end product \'roughly\'! The aussies use BT\'s a lot of the time and make massive power out of them ffs :D

I\'m having a happy time at the moment with Rotors, driving nothing special. If you think you have some thing to prove go prove it. If you want to have the biggest HP on the dyno do so. Better still, in stead of worrying if jon doe has more HP than u - jump in your car and go have some fun in it!

Ooops, time I started to pack for the Nurburgring tomorrow! :p

Not sure if anyone knows, or even if it has been dyno\'d ?  :)

Its not a 13B REW its a 13B RE

JayDee

The Dragon car is a REW, as Rich said you just need to do more work to get them similar.
Iaint is correct about terminals, traction and poor gear changes affect ET more than terminal speeds.
The Dragon car has been on the rollers but was getting too hot, so we have no power figures for it, but we are more interested in the performance of the car anyway.
Ross now has use of a airfield, this will be where the car is tuned in the future.

They do effect terminals, I have heard this so many times but from experience I have seen a massive difference. On my last FD I got between 105mph and 116mph on the same day, the effect is not massive but think about the pure physics of it.

A7NTY

My god you guys are easy to wind up. :) Why do you think Matt started the post? The fact is it is the most powerful 13b rew on the dyno in the uk so far, sorry that upsets so many people but that is the fact. I am not interested in a dyno contest as Rich rightly says its about how the car performs and it is stunning I love driving it, we went for the speed record for fun but I am not really interested in statistics, the car is awesome to drive, better than ever before and thats what counts. I have driven 650bhp skylines and they are not as fast as our car its a beast. Its a shame people cant just say \'nice one\' rather than, \'no your wrong\' oh well thats cars for you.

Up the 1/4 mile I think you\'re probably not too far off hte mark - if you fudge 2nd to 3rd then you speed will be compromised.

Over a distance 5 times tat it makes much less difference - particualrly at the start.  When doing a top speed run the start is almost totally irrelevant as your real limiting factor is distance - at 180mph you cover a lot of ground very quickly.

Over the 1st 1/4 mile you might end up at 100 to 120.  It takes you 13 seconds.

The next 1/4 takes something in the region of 6.5 seconds and you\'re doing 135-140mph.

...and so on.  at 180mph that 1/4 mile every 5 seconds (3 miles a minute!!!!)  the speed gained over this time (as wind resistance increaces exponentially with velocity) is small.

The example in my previous post from Brunters is real and is the difference between a standing start and a rolling 60mph+ start.  Quite clearly the launch is really imoprtant up the strip but vmax is really a function of power vs drag once you get to 1 mile plus.  Over 1.5 miles almost all cars will see within 90-95% of their real max speed (i.e. what you could do on a M-way).

I agree Iain however over 1.25 miles the figures arent going to change much. I think the car is capable of 195-205mph with 1.5-2 miles road.

JayDee

Ant, I am truly interested as I think the Dragon car is around that sort of power figure.
We have quite a few slips and the trend with a bad launch is we seem to get a slightly higher terminal?(1.8-9 60ft compared to 1.6).
Thats a big difference from 105mph to 116 with no other changes, what was the ET? did you change gear shift points.
Well done to all those involved as they have modified your car to give great power, and that your happy with it.

I think my 60ft on the best run was 2.5-2.7 something terrible like that. I short shifted first gear (changed at 7000rpm) as I didnt want to be wheel spinning into 2nd, that worked but the 60ft was awful. I am changing gear at around 8000-8200rpm normally as peak power is around 8000rpm (a tad below)

It was my first time ever dragging the car and I had only driven it for 10 minutes with the new power settings, I wasnt expecting a miracle. To be honest though Jay I cant afford to consistently run that power, we will have a more conservative ignition map and lower boost when she runs again I want the engine to last as it is a track day/sprint car predominately. I never wanted to run quick 1/4 miles, thats not what the car is about for me. It has modifications that will make it crap for drag, 18" wheels, track suspension etc. I am happy with what we did, if you want to know more then I am more than happy to talk to you on the phone, Ross has my number. 120ron fuel is just too fduking expensive!!! :-)

Ive posted a speed/revs chart on this thread

http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17050

I know you can maybe change the diff and tyres, but for ths specs listed thats going to need 9000rpm.  Can you get that?  Im sure it has the power for it but I would think the gearings a problem.

A7NTY

BTW 183.3mph @ 7700rpm, redline 9000rpm.
