In the last 5000 miles I have had an engine rebuild and a single turbo conversion by a long standing tuner here in the UK. It runs low boost and sits about 300bhp. The car currently runs decat for the first time.

So my question is, given the mods, no cat, and the fact the car was built in 1993, what level of smoke should I expect?

If I accelerate hard in first, say to 7000 rpm, then lift (rather than change up as would be expected in normal driving) I get noticeable smoking, but not severe, for a second or so.

I know this is an odd manoeuvre but I changed to single turbo because my old stock twins could white out two lanes of motorway if I did that in second gear.

What about in terms of general driving. Should I expect to see some exhaust output?

Thoughts and experiences welcome

OK, First two questions to try and help you will be, are you premixing and how much and do you have excessive oil consumption ?

Hey Clive,

I am not premixing. I have only just got the single turbo done, now with about 200 miles on it, so I cannot be sure about much yet unfortunately. I cannot be sure my oil level before but have topped up so I can monitor.

I should also note that my oil warning light came on today despite being half full and showing a pressure of over 4. It occurred after the heavy acceleration deacceleration event I described and stayed on for about 10 mins.

OK, you need to find out if the Turbo you are using is a full oil feed Turbo or if you need a restrictor in the union where the Turbo oil feed joins the Turbo.

If your on full oil feed and your Turbo needs a restrictor then chances are this is why it's smoking.
