So, some of you may know, that I've been commissioned  to do some work on a 1980s Lada Riva

Long story short. A couple wanted to have a go faster lada made for their 21 year old son.

So a local mechanic was chosen, they had a 2 litre zetec with Yamaha R1 throttle bodies. Hooked up to an RX8 gearbox. All mounted badly, the exhaust was 3" from the floor, the home made cross member was too low. The ancillary belt was routed as such that the water pump ran backwards. The mot inspector refused to test it as wires were draped over the exhaust manifold. Horrible cut outs in the slam panel to accept an aftermarket rad held in place with cable ties.
The engine eventually blew up.

6 years later, the son is now 27 and his folks are 8k out of pocket.
I came recommended by the guy who painted the rotus as they work over the road from the spray shop.

2 meetings, some t's and c's agreed and were all set. I've convinced them to go the rotary route, using my 12a.
It's been collecting dust for 2 years. So it needs a good home.

I'll be doing the instal, getting the car, running, legal, safe and mot ready.

The car will be presented back to the son as a surprise at a car show a bit like the tv show l, car sos. My car paint guy will do full engine bay and body respray.
Mom and Dad are very excited at the prospect after 6 years of disappointment.

Let hope I can impress them. My first customers ! Lol

I'll keep you posted on here.
I'm finishing the rotus first so it looks like I'll start the lada feb/march. Complete my bit over the summer.

I'll need some tech support here n there so keep you posted

Good luck Jamie, big question is PP Bridge Street or stock port, Weber and a free flow manifold and away you go.

All the best Clive

My thought process is .....
Leave the engine alone !

If it runs just leave it.

I bought it from Tim at Rx motors and vouches it's a good one. I don't know it's history tuning wise but it come from an fb nicknamed the blue rocket or something.

Jon knows a bit about it.

I've been told stick with stock carb for mild tuned porting but remove all the smog rubbish from it.

The exhaust will be homemade free flowing stainless jobby.

If I'm honest I love the stock bee hive looking oil warmer is it ??? All the fins?? But they won't be there.
But!!! I also love the stock pancake ait filter housing. Just a flexi hose from it to in front of the rad so it gets cooler air not engine temp air

Sounds like a fun build to squeeze in between Rotus and Carbon8
You're gonna miss not starting with chassis cad drawing though

Interesting

Stock intake and carb are quite good. However, if I could, I would go with aftermarket part, Weber ot Dellorto. Unfortunately, those intakes are a bit pricey

Eccentric shaft

Haha. What a refreshingly politically incorrect project!  :))

Ladas are good fun. What part of the 80s is it from? Did you know you can tell by the size of the rear doors? Up until 1982-83 they were too big to fit. FIAT instructed Autovaz (LADA) to change the panel presses after so-and-so many units. The Russians responded to this piece of advice with their usual pragmatism. Thus, some model years have boot lids too big to fit (as had my 1972 Lada 1200 - it gave the wasps a way in to build their nest*), the late 70s and early 80s ones had the rear doors sticking out to ever greater extent: why change the panel press when you can adjust the door hinges instead (and pocket the savings)?

*Yes, those wasps used their HQ in the Lada's boot to launch various attacks on humanity. One fine day, I was stung while driving.
Hmmmmmm over braps

Ladas have quite narrow engine bay at the bottom. You might have to think alot how to build headers

I have dreamed to put my 12A to older Riva. You know, one with round head lights. But here, its quite impossible because our laws

Well
It can't be tighter than the rotus which is why I had to bring 3 pipes upwards.

I'll sort it
