Yep, if the rules would have allowed me to poke the engine 6" back through the bulkhead, I wouldn't have encountered many of these issues.
All the best Clive

Mr Spiller

Great to see good progress Clive
Hell of a task to take on in the off season
You seem to be a very busy man

Small Children and animals beware the new turbo has arrived, it's a little bigger than the last one!

Just as well I went for the smallest of the three that were recommended  ::)
All the best Clive

Hi Clive

I came here to write my experience about how MRC helped me with my problem and stumbled upon this thread. I am well happy for you and hope that this build will make you truly happy. The BW turbo you have is very interesting :sign0098:

keep the updates coming and surely this project would be an eye opener for many. Wishing you well.

Thanks for the wishes, appreciated.

Turbo is a S400 72mm C/W SX-E Supercore; with a T4 Divided Turbine Housing 1.10 A/R

Hopefully this will help see 700 bhp on a bar of boost with next to no lag to get me off the corners  :great:

More got done today with Steve's help.
The big 4" down-pipe / mid-pipe is now connected to the rear exhaust section with just the wastegate exit pipe to plumb back into the down-pipe. (the flex I ordered was too long)

Abandoned the MX-5 steering Rack after realising I could pair my manually converted RX-8 rack down a lot more to give the clearance I needed under the front of the sump, so I could keep the engine as low as possible.

Tomorrows task is to start building the new bulkhead / tunnel assembly.

Sunday I will take the rest of the engine parts down to Carl so he can start the final build
All the plates and housings are already ported (big big Street Port)

5 Weeks to go and counting  ???

All the best Clive

Hi Clive

I have the same turbo going on my 2 rotor build as we speak. This is a good turbo and plenty for what you want.

The build is interesting and if you go with lightened Rotors with a bit of Scalloped in them, turbo will be fully boosting by 4k.

4 inch down pipe choice is a good choice as you know rotaries don't like back pressure.

Wishing you well Clive.

Cheers

Personally I think the Turbo have for the 3 Rotor will be way too big for your 13B

With the Race car I went through three Turbo's before I found one that gave me good power (520bhp) but drove like a normally aspirated Rotary, because I needed  a Turbo that would not just light up the rears when the boost came in, so I could drive it in the wet

Indeed I won races in the wet  ;) .

If you haven't bought it yet, maybe have a look at this one, also it will save you over a thousand pounds  :great:

Thanks for the input Clive. Yes you have kept the rotary spirit alive - we all wish you well in your future races too.

According to the ports, fueling, and manifold design, we are certain that this turbo will be fully boosted under 4k or little over 4k (will share the dyno graph).

I must say, we have taken a different route in building our engine and concentrated on the top end (hence 1.1 housing).

Not long to go before we know the results of this turbo on 13b.

What we have learnt over the years that, everything has to complement each other to produce reliable power. Hence, we are moving away from many common upgrades/portings/ignition, things that people do to build a rotary race car.

Everything on this build is different and we are building things differently to see if we achieve something better or we will return to the drawing board again! 😊

I will share experience and graphs/data once it's up and ruining. Its going in for exhaust manifold work this month. The manifold was designed by us after we had done a lot of research keeping in mind the turbo and other relevant things.

I guess time will tell but I will share everything.

Cheers
