I have been doing some more work on the FD dash this week actually. More getting to understand the circuitry that drives the speedo. I have obtained some chips to replace the obsolete speedo driver chips that Mazda used and have designed an "add on" circuit that will successfully drives the speedo to 140mph. I need this to repair the test dash speedo I have, as it has failed, unless I blow on it with a heat gun! The new chips should drive the speedo through the full range, so trying to work out why limited to 140mph. Good though, as everything is helping me to understand how the dash operates.

Sounds like good progress being made A lack of revs and speedo is the last thing which really bugs me driving my 7 (that's gonna jinx things for sure )  so I'm waiting in the wings should you crack it and decide to offer as a service

Not posted for a while so thought it was time for a quick update.....

As some may have noticed (or read if you've followed my thread from the beginning),  I've replaced my standard seats with a fantastic pair of Cobra Nogaro circuits. I have always been really happy with the seats but true to form (and as demonstrated by the countless forum threads), getting them to fit in the 7 has (and continues to be) difficult/tricky/irritating/frustrating/f***ing annoying (or all 5 depending on my mood!   ). Don't get me wrong, the seats themselves are a great, comfortable and quite similar to the fabled Recaros (without the 4-digit price tags ) but finding a set of adjustable rails is eluding me!

So far I have bolted them to a set of Bride FG rails but they needed different side mounts as the seat base is slightly too wide. Not a great start or fit either as the seats are waaaay too high The top of seat touches the roof-lining even through they are meant to be "low".  Not happy with them so I decided to order a set of Nagisa Auto "super low" rails as they have had some good reviews on forums and are meant to be really low. Forgot how long things take to come from Japan and that there is a shutdown in August! Anyway another set of custom charges later and the rails were delivered...............

So this weekend was swap over day or so I thought......... Well the height from new rails is perfect! Great to be sat so low in the car and no rubbing issues anywhere.........BUT.........back to the original issue of the base of the Nogaro's being too wide and the rails won't bolt to the floor!!!! aaaggghhhhh.

So I'm currently back to using the Bride rails with a small case of vertigo while I think about new options to consider #uncomfortable ....   NEXT !

Posts are a bit out of sequence so not sure where this will pop up...... however my home butchery - I mean modification ! - of my shiny new seat rails is making good progress. I have one side mount left to cut about - opps I mean modify - and a little recoat in satin black and they'll be bolted back in the car

A test fit has definitely made the seating position much more to my liking Not concours quality but it works for me and means I can stop accumulating (ok slight exaggeration) seat rails!

Now it's not that I'm vertically challenged but I am not tall by any means - I have no idea how any of you 6 footers manage sitting comfortably in a FD

Will post pics as it comes back together - and I've hovered as these seats are staying put for a while this time

In other news, I bit the bullit and ordered a Powertune digital dash
Will be the first time in many years I won't have to use my phone or Satnav to keep me on the right side of the law!
