So with a threaded boss from Franklin performance in New Zealand, a 38mm to 32mm stainless reducer, some turned down stainless bar for a breather, a water jet cut flange, some bends and some plate cut n shaped. A bit of welding, lots of swearing. Some coffee..... I have a new oil filler pipe.

Now I can tip oil all over my fuel pressure gauge instead of the alternator like I do in my 8 lol

I assume your making one
Can't wait to see it
The newer ones came with sort of baffles in the sump
No doubt if your using a baffle plate the wouldn't do no job anyways

Could someone please confirm what this is?

This is a shot with the sump off.

Manual says plug, then the diagram shows a spring behind it and then a control valve.

My suspicions are it's something to do with the oil cooler lines but it's not clear

Thanks

Sorry Wayne I didn't get a notification for this post.

Yeah I'm gonna have a bash at making one. I reckon I could make one cheaper than $425 plus shipping from USA

Gonna try and replicate the big wing version that Jon had on his Westfield but with a few tweaks. I need to drain the oil catch tank back into sump in case it does burp It will just seep back into the sump.

Will have a gated baffle inside

Oil pressure regulator. Have a look here:

Thanks Malcolm.

Just wondered as there is very little clearance between the relief valve and the sump

It sits about there so must be about 5mm gap at best.

I'm assuming when the oil pressure gets too high it will just drain back into sump

Here we go/

Not an RX-8 but the engine block oil flow diagram is the same less the turbo.

No 1 is a pressure relief valve with a spring and plunger behind. No 2 is the actual pressure regulator which Malcolm indicated.

For the sump you really don't need anything different, you just need a reducer under your new filler neck to stop the oil washing up and getting into the intake etc.
Hope this helps
All the best Clive
