Starting to make my own exhaust for a fraction of the price that some companies at charging. Should be reasonably quiet. 6" diameter 76mm bore by 10" long. I'm going to try and squeeze another silencer in where the cat is*cough*

Do you have  a resonator on your system, there was a small one after the cat in stock form.

I fitted one, no idea if it's the right spec, or in the exact spot in relation to the engine, but I'd like to think some of those sound waves get cancelled out.

Just asking coz I've not heard your car running, so dunno if it's loud, or it has an annoying drone at certain rpm.

I fitted that coz of the slim body and I have zero room, it has a provision for a sensor if required.

I'm sure you can get one from somewhere in the uk to speed up lead time on delivery.

Very loud and boomy under 4k currently with a horrendous drone noise.

Jamie R

World is your oyster then.........

I just hope you don't fit a silencer and you don't get a quieter car with the same drone.

Might be a bit of trial and error.

For the NC Racing Beat silencers, they offer three lengths of tail pipe to keep drone under control with the different bumper shapes, so maybe extending the tail pipes will help.

that's a fair point,

I don't always think of RBE when I think of MX5's

my bad

That is an issue I've had with Pug 205's previously. I was going to extend the tail pipes out a bit further  :icon_thumright:

I wish it wasn't that way Jamie as you know where my passion lies, but without MX-5 sales I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be in business :(

Heres a thought (for myself, because Im being selfish, nothing new there)

If I fitted an exhaust tip to my Rotus system that had a downturn and directed exhaust to the floor, would you think that would be preferable in terms of using the floor to "deaden" the noise levels?

Ive seen westfields etc in the past with a bend pointing slightly down after the silencer, I thought it was to stop shooting flames at pedestrians lol

I was looking on wiki this morning about the fiat/abarth 124, I didn't know it was the same base roots as the mx5

Racing Beat make some silencers that point to the ground to cut noise.

I have an elbow for the race car that I use for extra low noise limits.
I have used it enough times to know it cuts 2 decibels off the static noise tests.

Yes, we also sell parts for the  Fiat124 made by Mazda as well.
