MX-5 NC with RX-8 231 Engine

I only now about the 6" then 7" torsen and super fuji,s from the mk1 2 and 2.5s ...not got a clue on the nc...theres bound to be a solution out there plenty of NCs hillclimb. I was trying to work out with your current diff ratio your top speed gotta be 160 plus lol.
I think it will be the best mod on your car....apart from the engine...
I wonder if an 8 cwp will bolt into an nc diff...

Hi Paul.
As you will know the NC and RX-8 share the same floor pan so, having looked for an alternative gear ration for the NC diff and drew a blank, here's a suggestion.

As you know, to turn your car into a proper flying machine, you really need an RX-8 Diff.

Looking at the picture, it mounts the same and looks like the same width and drive shaft sizes, but the nose looks shorter.

I have an RX-8 diff you can borrow for measuring purposes to see if this will work.

If the wheelbase on both cars is the same, I suspect you will be able to use an RX-8 Prop and power plant frame and just bolt it all in ?

Thanks Clive. I believe the ppf mounting bolts are ever so slightly different. I did a few measurements when I carried out the conversion. The actual diff bracket/mounting points are the same.

I wonder if it's a case of just swapping the inner cv cups?

I keep reading that Honda s2000 diffs fit nb mx5's and I believe they're the same size as nc

I have an rx8 diff on the donor car, just a pig to get to as it's in a council garage.

Different wheel base. Mx5 is a bit shorter

I'm going to double check the open diff I have and see if it's 4.1,if it is, ill swap the crown wheel and pinion in and go from there.

Go 4.4 Paul. I run a 4.1 in the Westy on 13s...diff calcs the top speed is 150...4.4 would be 130. 4.1 will be compromise.
That 1 i was involved in they chopped abit out the middle of the 8 ppf.

Actually....forget the 4.1 go for the 4.4 or 4.7...
I was having a track battle few years back in the fd against a honda accord type r...
I had 1 and standard due to final drive they annoyingly drop out of vtec...i could not get by it it slung shot outta corners...id catch it going into bends znd it would drive away from me coming out of corners....
Avon rise i would on its arse..but too dodgy to overtake...he had an altered final drive summit crazy like 5.1...he said best mod he done. But he said first was useless...gotta find the balance....i reckon 4.4

So long ago mate i cant 100% remember but i was led to believe it was front n rear subframe complete swap with a section cut n shut from ppf.  Car did race of reremberance Anglessly then pretty much disappeared after that....i look for it on ebay lol.
But i did splice the mx5 abs sensors into the rx8 loom so may it was still running mx5 hubs...

Someone in rx8 oc enlightened me to the fact its not a straight swap as such. Chassis bolt isn't long enough to accommodate the subframe bushe. There must be a differential/c&p which will. Someone has fitted a ND diff to NC.
PPF isn't the NC item so I wonder if the ND one swaps over
