Over the last few years all of our pre- 2003 cars have been going up and now they are going through the (barn ;)) roof with the sale of the RX-3 two days ago which will see at least a 40K minimum restoration bill if the restoration is carried out as this one was as rotten as a pair but still sold for Winning bid after 90 bids it went for £18,700.00

RE, the above even if your not interested in the above and you own an RX-7 of any generation, this also reflects on your car as I am seeing prices of any good stockish RX-7 doubling in price over the last three years.

It's worth knowing that as part of your Mazdarotaryclubs club membership we are able to carry out recognised insurance valuations  for its members.

Its important to remember that with no valuation, you just get market value and not a replacement value.

BTW anyone reading the above about restoration costs, its worth knowing the Netherlands Mazda have just spent 100K on restoring the very good condition 130 Luce on top of the 25K it payed to buy the car------------------all this has got to be good news for pre-RX-8 owners with ANY Rotary

If you think the RX-3 was a lot of money you could buy an up n running one for 73K on this link

I've been chatting about values of pre-RX-8 Mazda Rotaries with several people recently. It's very clear that the situation we saw about 5-6 years ago where nobody was buying and values were rock bottom, has now completely changed.

6 years ago, RX-7 1st Generation cars in fair condition with an MOT weren't selling for asking prices c£1500-£2000. Now the prices are £5k+ for a a similar cars. Very low mileage A1 condition examples are selling for £10k-£15k, as there are so few now in existence.

Nowhere near the stratospheric prices of Cosmos, RX-3's and RX-4's, but given time....................................?
RX-8 230 Bridgeported: Racing Brake Disks & 4 pot front calipers,Full Racing Beat (RB) SS Exhaust system,RB ARB's F & R,RB REVI intake,Tein MonoFlex Coilovers & front strut brace.
RX-7, KIMI 1, 1st Gen S2, Silver,1983 - SORN
RX-7, KIMI 2,^^Ditto - now sold
RX-7, KIMI 3, 1st Gen S3, Red,1984

Sadly it seems the 2nd generations are being left behind.  Not that I'm looking to sell. but I had expected values to start climbing, particularly in light of the cars rarity.  Judging from recent online auction activity that's doesn't seem to be the case.  A 1986 example with half the mileage of mine failed to make its reserve of £1500. And a recent LHD example with same mileage as mine went for significantly less.  I know its difficult to reach a judgement from just 2 examples but with the possible exception of a vert it I really do not see any change in FC values over the last few years.

Good to see you posting Ken :)

I would say, just hang in there as I'm sure yours will go up in value as just about all rare classics are rising.

Not that long ago we sold our Cabriolet for 3K and we are now seeing 9's and 10's against these, so whilst maybe not the hard top Gen 2 (yet) but it would seem that most are climbing in value now year on year.

I wasn't going to say who, but yes I had seen that you had bought it   :sign0098:   Pictures look good - hope all goes well with it once over at Astons.

Thanks Clive.  As said I have no intention to sell at present so I'm not going to worry too much.  I'm hopeful the FC coupe's will start to go up in value at some point (hopefully before I lose the battle with the rust!).  Having said that since prices remain relatively low I have been seriously thinking about getting an other one - may as well corner the market myself  :).

Son and I have been discussing the same thing
Low rust coupes seems to be getting thin on the ground

Looking at current availability we have changed our plans for the car.  We were going to go full wide arch etc but on reflection we have decided to just go with some nice alloys, a little lowering and maybe nice exhaust... Things that would make it easy to return to stock

Yes I suspect you are right in terms of low rust models!  Mine is largely confined to the usual areas on the underside.  Body is pretty good save for a little bubbling on the sunroof and a spot on the drivers door.

I think your changed plans make a lot of sense particularly if you also see the car as an investment.  Personally I'm not a fan of heavily modded cars and prefer to see them largely original - save for the more hidden refinements!

Hope the car turns out to be a good one for you.

Well, we all have been talking about those prices. I do why understand that older rotarys and FD are getting expensive. But why not FC?

And as I said to Kev, Jim and Clive at Holland, it is ridicilous how much our 8's costs compared to your. Even with blown engine

If you look at most of Europe the prices are considerably higher for 8s than the UK
I have just bought a FC coupe that's LHD so that will be going back to Finland when I return

This looks interesting tho :)

None in Finland.... yet

Problem I have is the roads where I live in Finland

I have about 7 Kms of rally stage before I get to tarmac

re japi

So? For example FB is awesome at gravel!  ;) :P

That FD on auction, previous owner had price tag about 10K â,¬ on it, and it was on sale quite awhile. Its on rough condition, dunno about engine tho. It would make a good project if price is right...
