Little update from me. Generally just driving it about couple of times a month..keeping it all healthy...
Got a question though b4 i crawl about underneath it.
Handbrake lever had a lot of play..to the point where the handbrake light flickering..
So stripped gaiter off etc..and yep threaded cable end 10mm from handbrake mechanism..so wrongly i know duly tighten to get a functional hand brake back...summit mustve bent or broke under car possibly where splits from 1 cable to 2 for each caliper....any enlightenment b4 crawling under?

I will get some pictures of the cables and some prices for you Monday.

Just a tip, with RX-7's and RX-8's I slacken the cables first,  then adjust the calipers just so the discs move OK, then go back and adjust the cables, I have found this is the best way to get an efficient hand brake,

All the best Clive

Im hoping to get on my mates drive on ramp for a look see. Its went all of a sudden so im not sure its cable stretch..maybe 1 to 2 bracket moved..yes naughty just adjusting at cable end but hill start with fierce mofo old style dual clutch impossible without the handbrake lol.

Out in the fd today and had to pull over as waspy got in the car.
Doors open waiting for the blimin thing to find its way out and noticed the brake lights on..
Further investigation. Via the pfc hand controller and switch on all the time.. this led to orange bits in drivers footwell and some googling.. stopper on pedal broke up. Upside down in the drivers bucket seat looks like a 10mm bolt and nut will suffice. Drove home. Had to go fast make sure nobody following me for safety  reasons

Hey Jon, I found myself in exactly the same position last night (upside down in the foot well that is  ;D) with the same orange bits in my footwell  :(. Did you ever replace the stopper or stick with a 10mm bolt? Can't seem to find a Mazda part number so wondered if you bothered replacing or not?

:)) :)) :)) :)) Cool, and far more robust that a rubber/plastic bung!  We'll consider it an "improved design"  :13:

Then i fall in love with it again after a drive.
Cracking careful part throttle pulls and cruising on slimey damps roads. AC DC back in black playing on stereo.
Winter lay up now.
