Ive been thinking...tik tok...lol...
With an engine rebuild required i have the opportunity to ditch the fierce clutch and this will make the car more friendly on the road....and with values rising im considering retiring the fd from track duties...
Would require some new seats and seatbelts thats prob it along with the clutch.
Ive enjoyed driving it on the road recently so much but with harnesses you cant lean forward to look when pulling out and clutch is on/off..making roundabouts and junctions a challenge.
I still wanna track but summit less special and valuable...i got lucky with repair this time .  I wont track an 8 ive had 9 been there done that....im itching for a supercharged or turbod mx5 track slag like fd used tobe...shes become special to me...i cant track it at 90% it wont happen...summit will go past and ill have to chase it lol.
Whatya reckon...?

Clearly you love MX5's and rotaries..........

FD big turbo'd MX5??????

Completely lighten it, GRP doors, bootlid, bonnet. Polycarb the glass. Cage it for rigidity and safety. Big arches, mad mike style. Splitter + diffuser.

Be nice if you can make a GRP hardtop version for a bit better aero.

Just my 2p worth

I can slam a mx5 into the barriers and not loose sleep over it...ill prob just buy an mx5 turbo all ready done once westy sells.
Cheap track slag is what im after.

Ah sorry I misinterpreted your quandary, it would appear you wanted option on what to do with the fd not what you should have for the track

My bad

I agree, now that now you've got your FD to such a good state, she's too good (and valuable) to risk on track. You need something that's fun, but easier to replace/repair.

What happened to the Colt, or doesn't it "do it" for you now?

Keep Westie? but I'm guessing you want something more "all weather" maybe?

A turbo MX-5, so staying with something you are familiar with, with parts readily available, sounds like a good option.

The colt is good fun but its too slow...i get stuck behind people with more power who stamp on the brakes for corners. Get frustrating and its fwd...
Yep. Westy...needs a roof...and windscreen...but usless in the wet.

Ive got my beat up scooby wagon tempted to try it on a trackday....

A fully forged 1.8 Mx5 will hit 400 hp mind

Ive driven Brads mx5 on track and owned a fair few, its pretty much been bullet proof...ive said it before the driving dynamics are very much like an FD just slower...and everything is cheaper. An NA is lacking grunt like the mx5 so turbo it would have to be.

So, why not an RX-8 with an FD engine (like Clive  ;))?

A guy bought an RX-8, decent body, wheels, tyres and gearbox, etc (running, but dodgy engine) for just £315 on Ebay last Friday.

Clive has shown what an RX-8 chassis can do with more power, and you stay with rotary power  >:D
