If we are driving via the boring Belgian motorways  :'(  it might be a good idea to choose some of the many service stations along the way which CJR will have to use every 100 Km or so. They usually have HUGE car parks so we can gather there.

There is a service station after J6 of the A10 near Brugge which is well away from the chaos of Calais and Dunkerque. Maybe that could be a point of reference so we can gather the troops if we get separated?

BTW, have just discovered that we can enter TIME ATTACK at the event AND I am still insured to drive Aston's car   :))  but he doesn't seem impressed by my suggestions for some unknown reason.

The surprise is that you actually think he might be impressed. :D Have a great time all you guys and gals wish I could be there, but not having a car doesn't help.  :( Not that I begrudge Aston a weekend away from his work.   :P

Thanks Crissy

Are you able to locate  any of these places on route to the hotel?  I would like to try and get something organosed before we go.

Many thanks

Due to the needs of my car, I would like to keep it drinking Shell V-power.

I stumbled across an App that does all the hard work here, it's called 'Shell Motorist App' and it has what seems to be a decent station locator.

Happily, it shows there are lots of places to fill up along our likely route from Calais to Lelystad.

Spare set of bulbs.
High viz top to be carried in passenger compartment to be used when exiting the vehicle on major roads.
Warning triangle.
Breathalyser.

All suggested if travelling through France, not all carry fines, even though compulsory.

Something else that we need to be wary of is the shit that is currently going down in Calais with the hordes of illegal immigrants trying to enter the UK. Because of this it's recommended that people traveling to France don't stop for petrol or use rest areas anywhere near Calais. So... that means filling up at Folkestone on the way to Lelystad and filling up in Belgium on the way back. Plus lock up your cars while in the area.

Here is some travel advice from the UK Government:

QuoteSummary
Still current at: 29 June 2015
Updated: 29 June 2015
Latest update: Summary - disruption to MyFerryLink sailings on 29 June

Due to industrial action there is disruption to MyFerryLink sailings on 29 June. If you’re crossing the Channel from Dover/Folkstone to the Port of Calais check online with your chosen operator and plan your journey to avoid disruption. See the following information and advice. Information about alternative routes and operators is available via this interactive map.

There are large numbers of illegal migrants in and around Calais, who may seek to enter the UK illegally. Although local police patrols have been reinforced, you should keep vehicle doors locked in slow moving traffic and secure your vehicle when it is left unattended.

There is a high threat from terrorism. An attack took place on 26 June, at Saint Quentin Fallavier near Lyon. French authorities are treating this as a terrorist incident. Due to ongoing threats to France by Islamist terrorist groups, and recent French military intervention against ISIL, the French government has warned the public to be especially vigilant and has reinforced its security measures.

I think the migrants mostly affect lorry drivers but as a lot of them are now boycotting Calais altogether they might try and force their way through cars, etc. The walking stick might make a personal appearance just in case   ;)

Here are a few Shell Pee-Pit Stops near Dunkirk and Bruges.

Yup I'll be filling up in Folkstone, so that should get me to Calais,  :P

Should make it to first stop outside Calais  ???

Think we averaged a stop every 1 hour depending on speeeeed.  ;D

Getting excited now :-\ nearly saved enough to keep Shell in business for another 2 years  :D

Plenty of speed cameras in Belgium so you'll have to go slow Chris. Or lift and coast at every opportunity  :D
