I see a few guys on here have rebuilt their own engines.
The major thing that stopped me buying a rex was the rebuild costs but if you can do it yourself for about 1k its not to bad.
Anyway how difficult is it to remove the motor from the car? I know the engine is lighter than most but do you need a hoist ?
Is the rebuild difficult to someone with limited knowledge?
Thanks guys

Brett

It depends on how much practical/working knowledge you have of mechanics and engines.  The rotary rebuild is no harder than a piston engine to rebuild, just different.

However, depending on whats caused the rebuild you may well need toolroom facilities to make repairs or recondition parts prior to reassembly.

Luckily I have the lot!!!!!! :cool

Iain,

I took my engine out on Wednesday, never worked on one before and got it done in 7 hours on my own which I was quite pleased with :)  Would have been quicker if I had a more diverse toolkit as I spent about 2 hours trying to remove the bell housing 14mm bolts!  Yes you do need a hoist, I hired one for the day for £11 and bought some blue 6mm nylon rope from Homebase, doubled it over and it lifted the engine out easily.

I have all the bits here to rebuilt it myself but I\'m not sure I trust myself to get it 100% right, so I may just take the block to Andrew at Jimmy\'s and get his mechanic to do the vital bits for me!

Give it a go, It is definately rewarding....  Especially so for me as I found out today that noone at my work thought I would be able to do it!!  Cheeky t**ts!!

Mark.
