Engine sweet no issues no damage to any mechanicals.
Balance bar? Not sure what you mean?  ....panhard rod?

My Bad,... brake balance bar.
Radial tyres, have you use the temp probe to check the temp of tyre after test run.
have a look at wear on your rear tyres.
I\'m not going on about tyres temp/pressure etccc as you must know that already as you\'re a racer.;)

Was first time on slicks and was monitoring press and temps. All seemed ok. This was my fourth session of day and the longest i had been out and i wanted to push for race distance.

i had set balance bar for brakes after the brake change (smaller set up on front to accomodate smaller wheels) more to front and in scrubbing in session had done some heavy braking in safe areas to check for rear end lock and none present.

hoping mgb owner i overtook may see you tube clip and might be able to offer an insight into what happened from behind. If he saw tyre smoke suggesting a lock of rear or 1 caliper dragging .

my car is very easy to step out on downshift with engine braking rear wheels so this may have caused it.

ive started to over analyse now and cant remember what actually happened. Did i shift down to 3rd or stay in 4th.
Important to learn from it and if a car issue sort it but i was on the limit and think i pushed over that limit.

i definetely broke harder than before.

Once it fixed get it on a airfield and try and replicate scenario.

car wise. Apart from chassis every else looks ok. Wheels true. Wishbone undamaged.

wheels will be put on balancer to check.etc.but doing some research chassis plans are readily available with all dimension etc....its just a case of research at mo to wether i do my self or farm it out.

Tyre wear on front even. Tyre wear on rear more on outer edges as only running .5 degrees camber due live axle.
Car felt sweet though turn in no adjustments.

The more i think about the more my head hurts! Lol.

need 1 of those brake throttle G Meters like in formula 1!

Hi John,

Looks like it just caught you out, as  your actually on the turn in on the final gear change down and I would say that with such a light car it was enough to unsettle the rear, stall the back wheels  and around you sadly go:eek:.

It would also be like having too much rear brake bias and braking hard in a bend, this would give the same style effect.

To take on board the comments above, yes if you had more rear downforce this probably would have let you get away with it

By the point you have changed down with the car turning in I am normally looking at tweeking the throttle to push me through that  chicane, in other words I have changed down a gear while straight and be looking at being back on the throttle as I turn in.

I will say, I feel for Coombe diff gearing needs to right to get you all around the circuit any where near properly

Hope this makes sense and helps

Really hope this helps
All the best Clive

Thanks Clive for taking time to look when you have your own problems and others for there inputs.

I felt that the smaller circuference wheels suited the gearing i was pulling 5th on 3 occasions but axle got to come out anyway so makes sense to overhaul and go 4.7 once out.

Decisions decisions . Think thats it for a few months.

Funds are a little low need a month to recuperate.

Ive found the cause! levelled front on stands and started stringing rear end and it was obvious that rear ride height had altered.

Rear ns shock. spring collar has come undone 10mm. so off side higher and when went for grip on that ns wheel....Not a lot of contact patch!

These shocks use 1 collar and interference fit so riding the kerbs has loosened it.....

happy that i found the problem. Ill not post anything else til ive done some more fact finding.

single collar no other locking ring. and no grub screw????:2Mad:xconfused

this had wound down by itself lowering the car this side so was probably :censored::censored::censored::censored:ed this wheel hence the sudden over steer and loss of control.

That is weird. Should be able to get another collar from a supplier. AVO have a nylon grub screw in them which I think is pants. Should always have twin collar really.
What make are the dampers?

boosted

Not gonna say atmo....images ive seen on net have a grub screw in them!  All 4 of mine dont.

Had geo done thursday ride height was not altered as i already set and guy said spot on.

Happy that now not driver error but rest assured i will be making a phonecall tomoz.

re japi

Good news that you found the reason.

But this way drivers learn, making mistake, analyse it, and move forward.

Btw, you should move your camera, so you can see your hands and feets ;)
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Yes ! vindicated myself ! But a bit angry as ill get fobbed off no doubt.

need to find out whether supposed to have grub screw and manufacturing fault or its an interference fit. The other 3 have not moved this has moved 10mm effectively lifting wheel further off tarmac. With such a stiff chassis i expect it prob lifted off completely.

Missed it yesterday as looking at front end only noticed when i lifted rear end.

Phonecalls tomorrow! These are widely used on Westfields and a respected brand and there still under guarantee!

Is it worth getting some alloy tube spacers turned up once you happy with the height ? Will completely stop the nut from loosening itself off then. Surprised they only use one, will always work itself loose, would have thought the grub screw would mess the thread up and make it really hard to adjust at a later time.

I got make some calls tomoz the more i think about it the angrier i am getting and thats just not me glass half full kinda guy!  I think i got of lightly the outcome could have been far worse if it happened at folly in 5th gear i think the car would have been obliterated.

Off to wash the R3 and think about summit else!

thanks guys just need a distraction!
