Only major issue i see is the steering column and turbos possible conflict...the rest is welding, wiring and bashing.
Should be a hoot...and with 150 more bhp maybe just maybe the car i always wanted...

Yes Clive have considered it but at the mo the Fd engine will need a rebuild due low comp figures and its leaking oil like a sieve...the renny stuff can be sold off its a case of having too atmo because fun tokens are very low....all about what i can do myself inhouse....i think its gonna be the downpipe that gives biggest problem but hoping i can shoot it out  horizontally and then down to meet existing silencer.....hoping to tune at 12 psi and then see what laptime i can get and go to 14 if needed but i reckon its gonna be mental fast at 12psi and plenty for front running.

If I can remember right, your Westy has lots of room in back, so swapping FD´s rear end to it would be quite "easy" I think. I suggest that you do same thing that my brother did: build a subframe to FD´s rearend frame and then bolt them both to Westy. Quite easy to fit with just bolts then, easy to take off, and you dont have to do massive frame work to Westy...

Only thing what makes me scratch my head in that swap is that where you planning to put all that "front stuff", oil coolers, radiator, and so on...? ;)

And how you are going to fix/solve oil surge and those problems...? :)

Yes mate. Rear is quite spacious and subframe will bolt in. Little bit of extra weight but needs some weight over rear wheels anyway..Intending to run 16" wheels at back equivalent to 265 so will fit 5 x114 pcd and if i get offset right 20mm wider than front.
Front i run a big radtec rad and twin oilcoolers atmo so plenty of space  to use the fd 1s....issue is intercooler but due to compact nature of engine there is room in front of engine and will top mount on front nose cone/ bonnet.
Big issue is steering column goes right through turbo area and i may be forced to go single i dont know yet and at the mo im assuming fd 5 speed will fit in place of 8 6speed but ive read there 100mm shorter....time will tell.
Oil surge raaaa! Well penny washer and atmospheric vent have greatly reduced issue on fd and as it low comp possibly worsened by worn side seals...have to roll with it.
Biggest thing is not to destroy fd...anything poached can go back on later and essentially im only going to borrow engine gearbox and electrics. I will source rear subframe complete infact there is 1 very local to me on ebay atmo that i will prob get when free.
Theres gonna be plentys of issues to sort...i truly think my bearing issues are renesis related and hopefully its the last ill see of them. If i stuck another renny in it would be mid position car and dont see the point in that.
Its gonna need a big rear wing n front splitter of which i have no idea how to design.
Im thinking a year to complete ready for 2018 season.
Project 727....build thread soon.

Ok, you have figured out cooling and oil systems, good. :)

Cant say anything about steering column :)

But one thing that you should think about is that, is it really worth braking up your FD? You can find rx-8 rear ends and gearboxes really cheap. And those can handle that power, if you wont go mental. Dunno for sure but I´m quessing that rx-8 rear subframe is similar to FD´s. Gearboxes are almost similar size as you said. You can swap 8´s 5 and 6 speed boxes if you want, depends what gear rations you need. Only problem with those are boxes are different lenght PPF and propshaft, but I dont think that it is big issue either. Anyways you should build or order custom made PPF like my bro did...

8´s 5 speed is basically same box that FD has, but much smaller prize. But 6 speed has quite good gear rations if you are tight track. But if you want to go mental, you can buy Toyota T50 dogbox from here, they can take lots of beating and and can choose rations and swap those easily ;)

I know what your saying mate im between a rock and a hard place...ive considered everything and tbh im a stubborn mofo! Ive set my goal off Combe special gts and anything else isnt cricket to me... i dont want to rob the fd but i also dont particulary want to drive it on uk roads...
It will be all reversible and stored putting the fd drivetrain into the Westfield makes sense as will only require mild tune so it shouldnt be stressed.
Ive looked at so many options even racing the colt in nippon.
Every decision ive made ive had a nagging doubt in the back of mind but this decision is final. Even to point if the steering column wont fit ill convert to lhd.
Im not sure about the size of rear wheels and slicks and a multitude of other things but if i want to break 1.10 combe lap i need to go extreme. Its happening.

Once i pulled the engine from fd i can do oil leaks...then i can set about dropping it in and seeing what needs fabricating. Once all in i can test and build aero before pulling and getting rebuild.
Rear end will be stripped and subframe mounting frame fabricated before bolt in...
Seems quite straightforward....electric yep...gonna be a pain but im confident i can make a loom like the rx8 1 and all should be fine.
Driving the beast is motivation enough.

I know, I know, decision sometimes are difficult. :) Are you stubborn? My bro is stubborn bastard, you are not! ;) :D

I just wanted to give you some options. Sorry mate, but my opinion is that braking your FD isnt an option. :)

Few things to remember (my opinions):
-What ever you do, keep it simple. Simple solutions are easier to fix and modify.
-When designing that rear ends subframe, its lot easier and makes more sence to modify that, not rears own frame or Westys frame.
-Bolt PPF to chassis, to box and to rear so hard that it is impossible to move. That way PPF acts like part of cars chassis, and wont brake so easily.
-Dunno about 8´s rear end but FD´s has quite short suspension movement. You can modify it a little. Especially suspension in/up movement is really short.
-Westy is starting to become old race car (I think, not sure?) and have had lots of beating around the track. So chassis could be old and worn out, too flexible and maybe bent. So you have to check everything and re enforce it. Also, more power, weight and corner speed means bigger possibility to chassis to bend in corners.

Also, funny thing about LHD cars. At some point in our touring car classes, some drivers purchased cars from UK, RHD cars. Then some of drivers started to become suspicious, cause they converted those RHD cars to LHD. Why? You can see corners apex better from LHD car, because almost every track is clockwise, so more corners to right :D

Btw, did you ever found out what was that weird noise that came out of your FD´s rear? :)

Rear end noise....lol...she was groaning as she wanted togo back to the farm and continue her slumber....after Silverstone i stripped the rear brakes found nothing wrong re assembled and no noise since so possible brake bind due to hung up pad in slider....ebc pads always need a bit of the backing plate filling off..
I know what your saying mate...but engine has to come out of fd for oil leaks....its blimin pissing out of front engine cover and dripping off engine mounts. So ill borrow it for a bit....no fd parts are being sold so its not being broke. At the moment i have 2 broke cars that are resonably fast ....if you have a solution other than proposed im all ears....and fd race car is not an option it would require massive cash to be reliable and competitive.

Im not taking rear out of fd...i will source another fd subframe...rx8 rear subframes are rusty and heavier.

Really? Well, that was good news. I thought that diff is gone :)

Well, I quess its time to pull that engine off then. :/ But I agree, modifying FD to track beast is massive job. So best way to enjoy it, is to run it as it is...

Are 8´s subframes heavier? Ok. But I dont think it matters really, you need more weight to the back. I havent seen 8´s rear end in person so I, not sure how much different it is compared to FD´s. But I´m quessing that is has more suspension travel and better geometry...

Could use a 8 subframe i suppose...wouldnt have to worry about pillow ball bushes...get import rear discs and 16" wheels would fit...ill do some research as yes better geo..thanks
