I got the engine with most ancillaries and box with 80k on for 1900. i had to source alternator and tensioner seperate plus got throttle cable and few other bits thrown in for 100. i.e ecu. etc.....took a leap of faith as didnt not hear running but i picked up so met the chap selling....in his garage doing a zakspeed s2000 turbo conversion...ive stripped and inspected engine plus i turn it over on starter motor all good so happy....bonus when i stripped gearbox off nice new honda clutch in there. came out of his mate crashed car....got rego etc....plus he is only up the road if any probs!

it can sit there for abit! wanna do summit with it!

How much did you pay for your rolling chassis?

boosted

How much are they without engines and gear boxes? £3,000?

My dad seems to think a kit car will be better to put my engine and things in, rather than a mk1 mx5, but the cost is much more

Kitcars are very much like motorbikes...high in summer and low in winter.....hence there all really high atmo.....rolling chassis do pop up and engine failed 1s also. Locosts are the cheapest. Westfields and then Caterhams have a premuim due to heritage but its all a clone of original Lotus 7 design.

im in same boat do i do a car or kitcar..i fancy a tin top for when its not raining. £3k should get you rolling start winter time....

i have  a list.

mx5
Sierra
P100
datsun 120Y
mazda 323
Volvo 340...
Skoda Estelle s2000 power bonkers.
escort but silly money
Rx7 FB
rx8 and maybe a fd!

or sell engine on just fancy doing it if money permits!

My dads basis on going with a kit car is that they won't require welding, however an mx5 won't require much welding if find a good one.

And doing mx5 means I can also go drag racing aswell as doing hill climbing/sprints. And there are millions of cheap parts available. Such as a diff, as it will require coping with 500hp

boosted

Like you say kitcar fabricate the mounts and drop it in. My car is easy to work....ive dropped box and engine in on my own....there is a rolling chassis on ebay at mo and estfield for 1800.....eastern european westfield i think! Never heard of it but looks all there.  Does it need to be road legal?

Nah not really but it's better if it as then don't need a trailer unless it breaks lol

boosted

Locost might be the way forward....caged ex race car. Junk the engine and box.....some are live axle indepent rear ends are more but rx8 subframe pennys will weld/ bolt in. Just time grant....amazing how much time everything takes.

I know, time is something that brought me to get rid of the rx4, with an mx5 it's all there, just throw engine and stuff in. And upgrade stuff like brakes and diff.

Add a simple roll cage for safety and stiffness and alls good

boosted

Yes. Need to find the right kit car! If this engine blows you have first refusal on mine lol .

Not sure the trans x lsd could cope with 500 hp though! Or the english axle....which is gonna be your prob on most sourced rolling chassis!  Need an atlas axled car.
