Hello everyone, my name is Kit. Untill recently I was a very active MR2OC member with a black rev2 NA with lots of tasteful mods.

I now own a White 95 FD. I brought this car as a long term project. It had an engine rebuild in 2007 and has only done 1000miles since due to the previous owner getting married, kids house usual story but was garaged during that time.

Main problems thus far:
  • Running extremely rich, burbles and often pops/flames.
  • Battery not man enough to hold charge (cheapo job to sell I think).
  • Rear windscreen seal is comming up at bottom when the two ends join and water is sitting in their but not leaking into boot.
  • Horrible rear spats have been rivetted onto original bumper.
  • Enkei wheels need a refurb, but I want new ones so will sell them on.
  • Interior plastics are loose fitting and squeek/rattle.
Other than that I think its a good\'un. Time will tell.

My plan is to get it MOT\'d and taxed so I can get it to a specialist for a full service/tune but this will be as and when money allows.

Here is a picture, anyone know this car?:

So a few quick questions:

Best oil to use?
Best coolant to use?
Best battery to buy?

I dont want to spend silly money for stuff my car doesn\'t need, e.g gold plated battery, but would like to get what is proven to work/last in these cars.

Also who do people buy from? Im guessing halfords is a sin word here too? :P

Thanks in advance for replys.

So todays update:

Learnt how to use the search function on this site..... LOADS of info to choose from. Although have not found any video how too\'s. Those would be really helpful. Anyone link me to any?

I got in from work about 5pm and decided to do an orientation of the engine bay. Must admit im not sure what a lot of it does yet... I\'ve removed the strut bar, intake and throttle bodie (20min job) and removed the spark plugs as I think I\'ve flooded it showing it off to friends and family whilst sat on my drive way. It\'s running 9\'s front and back which seems to be normal according to this forum although I was expecting 7s front and 9s rear. The plugs are minging so i\'ve ordered a new set which should be here tomorrow or the next day.

Can anyone suggest anything else to do whilst ive got the above parts off? Think I saw the oil filter so might order one of those aswell.

Who is a reputable parts dealer that the community trusts and use often?

(I wont post pics as im sure you all know what our engine bays look like)

When you\'re running it for a minute or two when showing people and it comes to turning it off, take it to 5000 RPM, kill the ignition then fully open the throttle. This should blow out any petrol out of the housing and stop it flooding, so I\'ve been told.

If it was me I\'d do a full oil change and filter, new fuel filter too. Have a look at the AST cap, spark plugs (easier to get at from underneath) and leads. Check belts are looking nice, brake pad depth, have a look at the exhaust.

I haven\'t posted on here in a long time, but the utter joy of seeing a brand new RX7 owner has motivated me to do so. Gotta keep the blood lines going :Thumbs-up

Matt.

Hi mate...cool looking car....I was in your situation a few years ago and know how your feeling...as the guys have said faqs on here brill....loads of knowledge.

1 mistake I made was mixing up the ast cap and coolant cap....mark em up so you dont make that mistake.
These car love to rev and it does the world of good.
Dont shut her off til warm and if you have to do the 5k shutdown...it feels wierd but the fuel and ignition are cut the moment you switch off but the engine inertia is high so the rotors clear unburnt fuel.

Dodgy rev gauge is normal....but the buzzer comes in handy.

Enjoy....
