Hello, after hankering for an rx7 for some time and having read the what to look for when buying an rx7 i had the opportunity to buy one from a vehicle impound auction at a bargain price. So i am now the proud owner of i think an RX7 type x which i have not driven or heard runnning. I have managed to obtain the keys, the car has stood still for over a year, has no mot or tax, the body work seems to be in good condition and the interior a little tired.

The car does turn over, but there is no sign of any ignition, the brakes dont appear to be seized on as i can push it around.

Before i try again what do i need to consider or are there any secrets to starting these things?

THanks for any suggestions in advance.

Hi Lee. I would try taking the top plugs out first. Pull the fuses for the fuel pump and try tuning it over and listening for three even whoosh\'s from each plug hole. That way you\'ll have an idea if the tips are intact or not. If you get two whoosh\'s then you might have a stuck tip. In which case a tea spoons worth of ATF into the plug holes can help turn the engine over by hand so you get the ATF to each face of each rotor. Leave it for a day or two to lube up the rotors/tips. whilst your waiting drop the fuel out of it and put some new in it (V power or similar), and change the plugs for new ones. Also get a really good charge into the battery or even change it for a new one if you have the pennies. Then give it a whirl and see what happens. If it does fire up it\'ll smoke like hell for a while till the ATF burns off. If it doesn\'t then check for spark on all plugs ( I take it you\'ve already done this) and check for whoosh\'s out of the plug holes again. Report back here and let us know how your getting on. A tow start can also be the difference in getting them going or not too so bare that in mind too.

Also maybe post a pic up of the car on here. The chance is someone may know some info on it if it has some trick bits on it.

Hope that helps

I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)
