Has anyone got any views on fitting 20" rims on a fd3s?
If I did fit some,
Should I go for 25 or 30 profile tires?
What width/offset could I go for without flaring the arches?

Would really appreciate any advise people can offer.

Thanks Kim

Don\'t go bigger than 18s as it will just ride like crap and look like crap IMO

If you google image search for \'Time Attack RX-7\', they all look to be on 18"s.  So I doubt 20" will be as good for handling, even on a perfectly smooth racetrack.

E.g. http://www.speedhunters.com/2012/07/garage-kagotani-rx7/

Main problems with oversized wheels are:
1) weight.  Unsprung weight (the wheels, tyres & suspension that has to bump up and down when you drive on an uneven surface) is much worse than sprung weight (the rest of the car).
2) shallow sidewalls.  The suspension is designed to work with a certain amount of tyre sidewall, this is part of the overall suspension system.  Going to a bigger wheel, you lose this.

If you want to be different, go ahead , but don\'t be under any illusions that your car will corner any faster (it won\'t) or that other people will admire it.

I\'ve had 16 . 17. 18 and 19" can\'t say I\'ve noticed any difference between 18 and 19 ,

For best handling performance 17.s for sure. [/IMG]

19s I don\'t think it looks too bad, I personally wouldn\'t go 20s though

I\'m guessing this is being done for looks, not performance. If you like cars with oversized wheels then go for it - its your car.

Just be aware that 20" wheels will be notably heavier & have very little tyre wall so handling will be worse not improved.

Personally, i agree with most of the above in that anything bigger than 18" doesn\'t look right on the fd. Seen a few with 19\'s & think its a step too far.
That said, i also think stretched tyres look naff too but a fair few on the forums like them. Each to their own :)

Speedworks

Check the aussie sites and pictures, they tend to do this more often.

Cool, have a look at some of these for inspiration

To me, a good set of 18s will look awesome if you can get:
- wheels with some dish from the rim to the face
- width and offset so the rim of the wheel is flush with the arch
- ride height set for a nice narrow, even tyre-arch gap

Anyway, there are some great cars out there.

Personally I like TE37s and CE28Ns but everyone has their own preferences :-)
If budget is tight, Rotas look the part for less money ;-)

Proper wheels with the correct fitment can be any size and still maintain pimporality. Wrong offset and style/make/model = Gheyness.

Hope this clears it up ;)
