Hiya chaps

Was out in the cab over the weekend and the wipers seem to have stopped working completly :(

I have checked the 15a wiper fuse and it looks OK

Everything else works ( hazzards , roof , screen sprayers ) but just not the wipers

Thing is , they DID work , on all speeds aswell .. and now , nothing

Is there something simple i can check , or something obvious have missed

Im not even sure what i can check to see what voltage they are getting ( if any )

Unless there is a relay somewhere that i dont know about ??

Thanks

Stu

Pull the instrument surround off and remove the switch cluster.  It\'s quite likely one of the mini relays inside the unit has given up...

The relays are pence from farnell or RS IIRC :)

i thought the relay only sorted out the intermitten wipe and not EVERYTHING ??

i cant believe its gone from all to nothing :(

i have just been out and checked , and i seem to be getting 12v at the motor regardless of the wipers being on or off ( which i find more than strange)

i need to read the FSM on Monday at work to see if that identifies which of the 6 pins become "live" when the wipers are on , then i can put 12v to it from the battery to see if the motor is OK

I suppose it could be the relay .. maybe on of the pins im getting 0v to "should" be 12v to make the motor work ??

I need more info really , i dont want to make it worse ! LOL

Humm done some more digging , looks like it should have 12v , it grounds itself out to run the motor ....

Hummm , even with jumping the motor with wire its not for working

although it did manage to blow the fuse .. im wondering if the motor has seized

When you try and jump it with wires , it makes a horrible noise but nothing happens

Looks like i will be pulling the wiper motor

Finding a replacement could be interesting :(

i think I have one if it is the motor :)

is the motor turning?  it could be the mechanism that\'s broke (behind the bulkhead).

OK ... disaster averted :D

Took the motor out ( thats fun ! ) and got it into the garage .. got it all hooked up to a battery and nothing :(

Have the arm a waggle and she broke into life ( and then stopped ) , more wiggling , more stopping .. rinse and repeat and after about 5 mins , she would stay working

So tested both speeds and its fine .. looks like the motor was seized due to lack of use

Got it back on the car , put on the ignition and it auto parked .. it was just a pain to to get the arm back on .. but its all working now ..

SO .. hes is some useless info incase any one else has a issue

You can test the motor on the car , to prove that either its dead or you have a faulty switch

There is a block connector on the back of the motor with 6 wires

1   2
3   4
5   6

1 - Blue / White
2 - Blue
3 - Blue / Red
4 - Blue / Yellow
5 - Black
6 - Blue

Not sure why 2 and 6 are the same though ??????????

Anyways , from what i can gather the black is "ground" and blue is "perm live"

So if your wipers arent working , to test the motor put your ignition on and get a bit of wire , shove one end into either pin 1 or 3 and ground it to the chassis or battery , this will make the wipers work ( regardless of what the switch is doing in the car )

If the wipers work .. then you know its not the motor

I got nothing when i did this apart from a lot of sparks .. so i took off the motor ..

1 - remove the passenger wiper ( 14mm spanner )
2 - remove the grill ( 6 screws )
3 - pop the wiper arm off the back of the motor with a screw driver ( thru the holes that the grill covered )
4 - remove the motor - 4 10mm bolts

one it was out and on the bench , i made up some wires , and put live to 2 , earth to 5 and then used a 3rd wire to ground out either pin 3 or 5

Eventually it freed itsself up and worked fine ( im sure i said that up there somewhere )

Refitting is the opposite of reverse , and have fun getting the linkage to pop back on .. thats trick to say the least ..

Cause i have moved the motor arm , it wasnt in the same place , so one it was bolted into place and wired up , put the ignition on and it will auto park

you can then get the linkage back on

Simples eh :D

Sounds like your having fun. The FB ones had seized completely on me during some wet weather. Bit of cleaning and grease and they run like a dream.

Think the FD needs looking at too !

i love a free fix :D

Thing with these cars , everytime something breaks or doesnt work , i always think the worst ... and that its gonna be really hard or really expensive to fix
