Hiya!

My turbo went ballistic on me, no boost, weird sounds, especially no more ft-pf-pf-pf from the intake when running without blow-off, now its more pffffffffff and done. No chopping of the air from the blades.

So I am guessing my turbo is done. Probably around 4-5mm slack in the compressor wheel side, none in the turbine side, dunno why, would guess front bearings, not that this should make the weird symptoms I got.

Anyhow, I am broke, a student for four years, and I need my car. My MOT is coming by August 31st, my exahaust is FUBAR, so my REV TII is here on friday, which increases my boost to unsafe levels (do have Rtek 1.5 tho). My alternatives as I see them:
-Stock turbo, weaker actuator to compensate for free-flowing exhaust.
-BNR Stage 1, new fuel rails and pump, and FPR to get the AFR within safe range.
-Make a pipe between downpipe and manifold, run 130bhp N/A for four years, be fecking boring.

Now, my goal in life is to get more HP out of this car. Later, much later. BUT, now that the opportunity presents, an uprated turbo makes sense, to spread the expenses out (standalone 1k, mapping 1,5k, turbo 0,4k).

My choice at the moment is number two, the BNR turbo with the upgrades listed.

How will the stock ECU like an increased fuel pressure? I have a feeling it will be :censored::censored::censored::censored:ed off. I know 200SXes have been run with stock ECU and upped fuel and air pressure to get to about 300bhp, so in theory, it will work.

My alternative alternative to the number two alternative is to get an Rtek 2.1 at the same time. As I understood, it piggybacks the signal from the ECU, so what I adjust, is the stock map + or -, nothing from a basemap that I can screw up, as long as AFR=14,7 or less.

Anyone got any wise input on this?

Hi Jim,

Reading this it looks like the cheapest way forward will be to put a stock turbo on and drive the car as it is.

And you are right, the stock ECU will put up with very little before it cuts the engine out to protect it.
All the best Clive

There are plenty of TII\'s being broken at the moment, so I bet you can get a stock turbo to use in the interim for student money :)

If you hang on though... I\'m sure Grinder will come up with a way to make a new turbo out of a shower curtain, bin bags and PVC..!

I have a spare OEM turbo sitting on my garage shelf, looks like its about £30 shipped to Norway - unless you know of a way to get it to you cheaper?

I rechecked the turbo (last time I checked I was 300km from home, with a possible blown turbo, I felt the axle, it felt worse than it really was. Got home, took off the exhaust, no slack on the rear wheel, maybe 1mm from center out on compressor side. Doesn\'t touch the housing.

Probably my low boost was a combination of exhaustleak in the downpipe and a bad wastegate actuator.

I am getting my REV TII tomorrow, so we will see what happens then ;)

I would check for boost leaks in any of the pipes
