Hi,
Hello everyone :wave

I have an uprated head unit in RX7 FD3. Normal power for head unit is 3amps I believe. I want to uprate this to 10amp. Earth cable replaced with 10 amp cable, but Live+  I am not sure about.

From wiring diagrams it appears I could run this off the back of the cigarette lighter (30amp). I investigated this and the previous owner had disconnected the cigarette lighter, I have found what I believe to be connector (it is an unusual shape), but the wires coming from it cant be rated above 5 amp. How have other people solved this?

On other cars I have run a new lead direct from the battery, but the engine bay and chassis are so tight on the RX7 I cannot see any way of doing this.

Any ideas or stickies or YouTube? I have run a number of FAQ queries and cannot find this.

The audio loom fuse is 10A.

I\'ve run several different head units in my car and all I\'ve done is wire an ISO loom in to replace the stock one.

Really? The standard loom power cable does not look like a 10A cable. I wired in to the standard loom to start with but when I turned up the headunit on anything with a bass line you could see the power fade on the headunit with each beat. I put in a clean earth (I think) to see if that would help, but no joy there either.

Given you have had no issue, I must have missed something. Thank you for replying.

If it has a removable face just wire in some fresh cable from the battery with a fuse at the battery end. I\'ve always liked giving it a decent supply.

If its not then put a relay in and use the cig lighter loom as a switch on for the ignition side of the power.

Yes, the fuse is definitely 10A :) It\'s not to say all wiring is even and that someone hasn\'t messed with yours at some point but I\'ve never had an issue.
