Many thanks for coming along and for the assistance (and the pictures)

More of the car another time as sadly the event was tainted by the post race outcome with the stark reminder that motor racing is dangerous.

As those  attending know there was a big crash at the start of the second race toward the back of the large grid and today we had an update.

Three of the drivers went off to hospital with two released and one still in with a broken back  :(

Thanks Jon,

This was the first race then,

It looks like the MX-5 was the culprit and I understand he caused the big one and now has few weeks ban.

My friend has my card and it will be interesting to see at least the start from my camera.

It seems to me that he jumped the light and then burned the tyres :)

Bit of an event update for you, especially for those who attended.

Just 24 hours after young Billy Monger's terrible accident at Donington Park, Track Attack Race Club driver Craig Walker was involved in a multi-car accident at the Castle Combe circuit in Wiltshire, in which he regrettably sustained injuries including three broken vertebra in his back.

Sadly the poor guy from race two has been told that there is still the possibility he will suffer long term permanent disability. It is understood that because of the spinal cord risks they are unable to operate as they would like.

A page has been set up on this link.

Race car / Coombe update/

Leading up to the event I managed to get a small silencer in the system to get my central exhaust back on which got the car down from 106db to 96db which means I now have some room to make up a rear diffuser.

As for the event, shoved down the grid from the second row to row five for being naughty boy, in-spite of keeping two wheels on the black stuff  ::)

For the race I immediately got the times down to at least something a bit more competitive and can see that this time on best laps I was 1.8 seconds adrift of the big power Subaru--------with more speed to come from the car (*and me*)

After a junk start the Car balance was good with even tyre pressures on every corner when I got back to the pits, and although the pressures were high it shows we are going in the right direction.

As you have already read, after a few laps, I clipped the kerb coming onto the main straight and the jolt killed the power steering and if ever you have had this you will know that, god its a pig to steer, as it not only takes effort to turn but also it wont centralise, so you have to drag the steering back straight again.

Took a little effort to steer and it made my skin leak so much I had to stop on an escape road to clean my glasses so I could see to drive into the pits  ::)

Biggest problem for lack of pace was wrong diff gearing and even Carl (Hayward) could hear from the outside that I was having to feather the throttle out at times which costs loads of  time.

Looking forward I now know the car needs some better Aero to get some bite on the ground plus higher gearing.

Already started with removing the lower wing as some felt it was causing drag and not letting the big wing work efficiently . ( see new rear picture below)

Also I have removed the nose to build some big canards to find front bite, but most of all, I have found an Auto RX-8 diff which will raise the gearing to where I want it, with the plus side of a longer more usable 1st gear off the line to give better starts.

Then lastly now I have the central exhaust tucked up high, I can build a rear diffuser to clear some air out from under the car.

Touch wood, with the car now finally reliable I can start developing the car to find some speed out of it.

I have also bought a new steering wiring loom so that should sort the steering issue as well

Many thanks go to every one who has either assisted or just stuck with me to get the car this far  :great:

Just curious, is that car hard to launch off the line? Too low revs and engine stalls, too high revs smokes the tires?

With the 4.4 rear ratio first is a very short gear and it lights the tyres up as soon as I give it some throttle.

Did play with the idea of trying getting away with  2nd gear as I have with other cars but I know it will bog down.

launching should be better when I get the 4.3 under the car,

Can you do "launch control" button system?

You know, there is contollable modules where you can cut ignition in some revs. When you hold the button, module cuts in pre set revs...
