Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Real sad we could not make race day as I put in 30 laps in three sessions and was just getting to grips with the thing with a best of 1.37.373 which should have put me in the thick of things today with the lap times I have seen .

The exhaust note changed very sightly and with the luck I have has so far I decided to pull the engine out  today and from what I can see it looks like Goopy Apex seals have saved the engine as it looks like one has just rolled over slightly.

Time permitting and hopefully no damage when its opened should see the car out at Japfest with some Aero changes and running properly, Grrrr and we was so near.

On a much brighter note for Rotary's the RX-7 FD's of  Phil Collard and Paul Buckmaster have both finished their first Nippon race in 4th and 13th out of a 27 car grid

A stock Apex seal will shatter if you have any sort of detonation problem through fuelling, ignition timing etc however Goopys will just bend out the way which should always save other damage happening to housings Turbo's etc.

Hope this helps

Have you had chance to look at the afr's yet Clive.
Just 1. Aint the engine build fact
And 2 Aint the mapping fact.

Something else is going on been racking my brain 1 thing that pops in my head is the traction control system ...is this screwing with map?

Thanks for having a think Jon, however we think we know the problem

On the rolling road the run was too long which let the engine lean out !!!!

For the traction control,

I may be wrong but as far  as  I am aware Traction control will just close up the throttle , but that aside the chassis system is separated by the Aaptronic so the fueling and ignition tables are separate from the stock ECU

The fueling and ignition timing etc is run by the Adaptronic however the stock ECU takes care of the throttle body operation and Traction Control as they are inherently linked.

Can't see how the TC should effect the fueling maps

re japi

Can Adaptronic learn and adapt? Or does it just use given parameters?

Clive, any news yet? :/

The ADaptronic acts as a stand alone as regards fueling timing etc just to control the engine management leaving the stock ECU to take care of all the chassis functions

Won't be any news till later in the week, hoping to drop the engine back in next weekend

Already I'm on the back foot for the season so unless I can keep up the momentum on the car it will be yet another year lost

Sad to hear this Clive but these things do happen whilst trying something not a lot of people have done before instead of the tried and tested method.

Hope you get it back together ASAP and start enjoying rubbing doors with the other rotaries out there in your series.

Slight tangent but me and my brother have been talking and were going to out my rotary and turbo setup In his tran am!!!! Going to be mental

Looks like we are up n running again, a broken side seal was the culprit with no damage to any faces and all the Goopy seals intact and refitted so no running in to do this time :) .

As tough as it was not to continue and race as it was only shown up by a slightly differing exhaust note on tick over, even still ticking over at the correct RPM, pulling it apart was the right thing to do.

Next outing proper will be Mallory Park as I'm missing Brands to be at Japfest with the club on the same day but at least I get to test before the Nippon round there later in the year.

Grant, am I ready correctly, a Rotary Transam ?
All the best Clive
