Yes you are Clive, I have everything to make the engine work and my brother has the car with an engine that needs rebuilding so were gonna build it together:);)

Glad the car and motor are back together. Now let's hope your good to go and run with your class.

I will get a thread going once we have done some work on the trans am but the basics of it makes sense.

Big 6.5litre cast iron v8 out.
Big heavy automatic torque converter out.
More powerful 2 rotor in
2rotor weighs nothing compared to the v8.
Light weight FD rx7 gear box going in.
Solid rear end already in the trans am = strong
Everyone puts v8s in rotary cars so why not put a rotary where a v8 once sat

Good to hear that there were no damages. Hopefully everything is now sorted.

Grant; So you are doing WHAT? :D
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Great news Clive. Still in awe that you noticed just from the exhaust note !!

Look forward to seeing it in action at Combe.

I have good news but not from me,

Congratulations to  Phil Collard (Pukka) who has been trying to solve his car problems for a year longer than me !!!

This came to fruition at Brands yesterday with an overall win and a second place, well done Phil.

As for my car, over the last week we have made huge progress, sadly uncovering some fundamental mistakes, which is the price to pay for being the first to plumb the Adaptronic fully into an RX-8 chassis using an REW engine

Adaptronic are now working closely with me and we now have an excellent base map in the car based on a Bathhurst 12 hour RX-7's map  ------------sadly we now know we lost a year plus engines with problems that have been uncovered by  Adaptronic, now we are getting there "please let this be right"

Seriously, I had a good run in the car yesterday at Castle Coombe using a whole tank of fuel in two sessions at a reduced 7800 !!

Lap times at Combe i cant really help you as have no data myself but 1.21 pretty good! fresh set up for you with base map. im circa 400 bhp per tonne in Westory with slicks on and best i got last year was 1.19 really pushing. so think your ball park there....TSL timing may be able get more data.

Had a look at tsl timing for the first race of this year versus last year and same cars last year where quicker by a couple of seconds so looks like tarmac got some rubbery in todo

Looked at the tyres today and from being very scrubbed in they are now super smooth, looking like I had just bolted them on

Chris CJR said to me that he was surprised to hear the way the tyres were squeeling -----------that'll be no grip then !!!!!!,

it's a very different track with the new Coombe surface  :smiley_confused1:

I checked my bridgestone on the s type that i took round and mine the same no wear at all.....bit sad but may have sold both the silver and blue 1. Silver poss going to axehammer on here and blue 1 off to France!. Its 6 mins in a car to my new job.....no good for an rx8!

I did a trackday at Combe in April and they mentioned in the briefing that the new tarmac was nosier and prone to make tyres squeal a bit easier than previous surface.  I checked my times for old surface last October and new surface and they were fairly consistent at around 1.28 on clear laps.  Sorry we did not make it along to Japfest as I would have loved to see the car going at last.  Hopefully we will get to a race meeting sometime this year.

Real shame we didn't get to see Sally and yourself .

Really strange hearing tyre squeal , never heard it on the car before

Chris CJR commented on it as well,

Dave any idea how much slower the track is now, I would say 2 to 3 seconds ?

Clive feedback I have had from staff at Castle Combe is that the track is expected to be quicker and they expect it will be even better for next year once it has had a summer's worth of heat cycle to fully cure the tarmac.  I understand a new FF1600 lap record of 1:09 was set last Monday as compared to 1:12 at equivalent meeting last year.  The fact that my times were consistent is probably more from the fact that I am not pushing car to the limit as the tyre walls always seem a bit close at places like Quarry and Tower and I would rather have fun than have an expensive repair bill.  Was out at Goodwood on Thursday and that was much more fun as circuit really suits the GT.

Thanks Dave,

Well I had better get my finger out next time then  :)

Seriously, I was on reduced revs but will say that I am now puzzled why the tyres had no grip, as I said, never heard no grip tyre squeal on any track before with the car  ???
