Quote from: BlitzBoy;852165The saying that torque wins races is a complete myth IMO, big torque is only needed if the car is heavy or towing something, a big fat HP power curve is what needed to win races. Torque is relevant in long endurance races so you can pull big gears at low rpm so your fuel consumption is low so dont need as many fuel stops. But for out and out speed and quick laptimes response\\BHP is king imo

I wasn\'t saying torque was king just torque is something great to have it you are limited to HP.

If 2 cars have the same HP and rpms but one has 100-150 more torques over the rev range which car is going to pull out of the corners faster? Especially the low to medium speed corners?

In drag racing, as we all know, HP is king, however getting out of the hole is where the torque is used, after the 60ft/100ft mark HP takes over and mph goes up

the statement was about torque wins races, it does\'nt , its a combination of everything that wins races

You can overcome a lack of torque with gearing.  But yes, it is cash that wins.

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

re japi

Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

I know, have you seen how the guys going for the land speed records are creating funds? You sponsor them, not much, and they put your name on the car, potential 1,000mph car, great idea I think. Try it Clive:) might work?!

Driver helps to win too.

I obviously wont name the driver, but I once raced against a well funded driver with good machinery who was always quick in practice and often led races --------------for around three laps!.

In his second season he actualy admitted he knew what the problem was, after three laps he used to lose consentration and basicaly just drove off the track!!

Not necessarily, many on lookers said to me over the years "you must be mad or a loony to race" , my answer would always be "no, I feel its the reverse"

To me to go quick you need to be thinking and reacting all the time about what you are feeling going on with the car, callculating what is going on around you and how you are positioning the car on the track either for the best speed you can get from the surface of the track or working out how you are going to get around the car ahead.

I have always had the saying of "you can only go as fast as the car will let you go"   so to me, being brave, having balls, being mad or whatever is not in the equation, its all about understanding the abilities of the car you have under you and what you can and can\'t do with it.

Leading all the time would get boring, especially if your well in front.
