hi all
im new to the boards, eager to buy my first ever proper sports car and its a hard choice between a GTO TT (93 ish) and an RX7 (93 ish).  but have decided i like the mazda better for looks and performance tho not practicality lol:D  would i be ok with one of these cars, im 25 and have had 3 previous cars being 2 peugeot 106s and now have a ford probe 2.5 i have had 3 yrs now.  i will be buying a black one for definate and i want a bog standard unmodded one, are all rx7s turbo?? i get confused if some are twin turbo or single turbo or NA:o
how much should i be looking to pay for a 93 3rd gen in good condition average miles?
cheers for all your help

Weyyyy St Neots!

Right first thing I\'ve found about the 7 is budget a LOT of money! If you aren\'t addicted to buying bits (which you will be) you\'ll be paying through the nose insurance, petrol bills and saving for a rebuild hehe.

So first thing, set a LOT of emergency money aside

Also servicing is fun. I rang round all the Mazda dealerships in the area including Cambridge and not one touch the 7 hehe. So do be aware you may have to travel to get it looked at sometimes.. no garages will touch if with a barge poll hehe.

The Seven is a bit of a beast. It\'s a group 20 car (highest insurance group) and for good reason. It has no traction control and can be very tail happy being rear wheel drive.

All FD (newest shape) rx7\'s are turbo. Some have single turbo (well modded ones) but the majority will be sequential twin turbo.

A GOOD 93 with low mileage, quite far from a rebuild will probably set ya back £7500+ If I were you I wouldn\'t be tempted by these ones you see for £5000 as they are likely to be ex crashed cars or gonna need a new engine soon!

A well modded / body kitted etc one you\'re probably looking £8000 - £10000 ish depending on what\'s been done, maybe more! You basically pay for what you get a lot of the time..

I bought mine from //www.neweraimports.com which I found great and would also say to look at http://www.rotaryimports.com/ and even //www.linney.org who are based in ware.. I\'d stay AWAY from that Bonsai crowd from what I\'ve heard..

All in all discounting insurance I\'d set aside about 12/13k which included a good safety net.

These are fanTASTIC cars

BTW have you heard me yet? :D

Servicing in Milton Keynes mate, any other engine work etc.. looking at Norwich, Reading or Portsmouth.. that\'s about ya lot

10 should be enough, just be aware that you may need a few quid just incase :)

Sarah,
were you at rotorstock with a uk model FD with a slightly smokey exhaust?
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Sarah

nope... I was at Rotorstock but in a skyline (parked behind the MRC stand next to Si) .. my mazda was being welded at the time.
Wasnt me.. but Im going to Billing, and hope my fc will be presentable by then lol.

I think most people regard £10k as the cutting off point for buying a good rx7?

Anything under that and there are prob a few prob\'s, you may get a good rx under £10k you just gotta keep looking and don\'t rush in, took me 8 months to find my rx.
