I looking to get a Power FC soon, Ive a couple of questions though.

Does anyone have the PFC with the Apexi TT, are there any problems with running the TT (or any TT) with the ECU?

Does the ECU remove the 113mph speed limiter?

Is it worth buying a commander? The car will be tuned by WGT and it will only have a back box, induction kit & if I find out my cat is dead then maybe a straight through section. I really doubt I will do more than this to the car. How usefull is it being able to get readings from the car if something does not seem right.

What gains have people had from fitting the PFC? I don\'t mean you guys with heavily modded cars as its essential you have a aftermarket ECU. What gains have the drivers with similar mods to mine found?

Thanks for any advice

Cheers

i\'m not aware of any problems with TT\'s & ECU as surelt the TT is basically just keeping the ignition on for X period of time & had no probs with my TT which is part of the alarm but sum1 may correct me on this although as i say not seen any mention of problems with this & cant imagine why there would be dramatically.....?

If budget isn\'t an issue then i\'d go for a comander as while i got Pip to lock mine to avoid any potential mishaps (never know what Si\'s wandering hands are capable of http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008\' target=\'_blank\'>http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/11/11_1_103.gif\' border=0> lol) it is good for info & if nothing else it will give you an accurate water temp & boost reading....http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008\' target=\'_blank\'>http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/3/3_3_6.gif\' border=0> which can only be useful & a good thing.

I have similar kinda mods to you but can\'t really comment too much on the differences as my previous standard ECU wasn\'t working quite properly so not really a fair comparison but from wot i read a nicely mapped FC will give smoother power delivery & more power at that.....

exhaust and intake?.... I\'m not entirely sure you really need a PFC( could be wrong) but as for the delimit thing, the sva speedometer chip that converts kph to mph should delimit it.(ask the guys whos fitting it)

it would be better to wait until you decat it then get the PFC I think... I rarely use my commander.

hey darn good post i would like to see what people have to say aswell also has pip told you what you could go upto on the boost ie 0.9bar but if taking the cats off i think would be a good idea as when i had my turbo 2 it made the car alot smoother for everyday driving but quite a difference in power delivery so when i have done my fd i am hoping it does the same as it so much easier to drive less gear changes etc.
good luck with your motor when it is done.

It will remove your speed limiter.

BHP gains will depend solely on the amount of boost it is mapped for (assuming you are just going to run it on the same type of fuel as you currently do), at the same boost level as stock you\'ll get an extra few bhp say 10 or there abouts, but without upping the boost it\'s not going to magically increase the cars power output.  You will gain at least the same again by simply removing the cat IMHO.

Commander is really down to you, if you have a boost gauge and an accurate temp gauge then you may not have any need for a commander.  It\'ll prove handy if something goes wrong for diagnostic purposes, but beyond that...

Only drawback of the PFC over a stock ECU is the idle control which from what I\'ve seen is hit and miss (not just on FD\'s).

Thanks for the answers.

Im not sure what to do, I have a boost issue that I am wrongly thinking that by fitting a PFC and handing the car to Pip it will be sorted. I am forgetting that it may be something expensive that ontop of the PFC and mapping cost is probablt going to cost me too much.
I also have a bill for a service of about £250ish and also have to get the front of the car sprayed £350ish so not getting one just now may be a better option.

or

I can put the money towards so 17" wheels that will add at least 20bhp or more to the car
;)

My answer.................f**k knows what ill do.

Get boost issue sorted first; no point bunging management on it if its not working proper...

although wot is your boost problem mine was caused by dodgy ECu (not communicating properly by looks of it) which a nice new power FC resolved.......Although i no most the boost problems aren\'t ECU related fort i\'d mention it on the offchance.....

I had a boost issue - or so I thought, turned out to be the clutch being worn! Doh!!

Had a PFC fitted after the decat to stop my car running lean. Have to say the commander isn\'t a neccesity unless you love gadgets or tweaking the paras yourself.

The idle is a bit odd ta times, starting the car and it idles at 1200rpm before dropping down to 800rpm. This is after performing the aircon idle setup precedure too!! Dunno how to get it to idle at 800rm after you turn the key? I guess the PFC knows best!!

Not sure if adding a dual Apexi intake to a straight thru HKS front and custom mid pipe with decat Blitz Nur spec R system will cause boost spike? I\'ve got standard fuelling and rad I/C. Ideas anyone??

I\'m sure I read somewhere that it idles high at start up anyway kinda like having a choke. then press the gas & it drops off think it was in the owners manual for the RX

Aha! Yeah after I\'ve left her for 5mins or gone out for a spin the idle is back at 800rpm. Unfortunatly I\'ve only got the Japanese Efini manual so it\'ll take me some time to translate the text back to a form of English!

Anyone got an idea about the boost spike? 20B_boy??

Sorry it\'s a thread hijack!! ;)

According to the manual I have on disk for a US car:-

To help warm up the engine, the engine speed is automatically set at 2500 - 3000 rpm for about 20 seconds after it starts. After about 15 seconds reduce its speed by slightly depressing the accelerator & releasing it

You can run intake & downpipe with boost controller limiting boost to 10psi on stock ECU.

If you want to go full exhaust and intake then you should consider an aftermarket ECU. I wouldn\'t worry about getting PFC unless you intend to change your fuel system (bigger fuel pump and injectors).

I use M2 Stage3 ECU with my mods and it works just fine. Actually, its a tad rich on the top atm.
